How Are Paddle Shifters Set Up?

Paddle shift levers are typically mounted behind about the 10 and 2 o'clock or 9 and 3 o'clock positions on the steering wheel. The paddle on one side shifts the transmission up a gear, while the other side shifts it down one. There’s no clutch pedal like a manual gearbox requires. On vehicles equipped with a CVT, paddle shifting simulates a traditional automatic by stepping the gear ratios up or down.
