2015 Volvo XC70 Overview

Is the 2015 Volvo XC70 a Good Used Car?

The 2015 XC70 has one of the nicest overall interiors in the class, with an elegant design, high-quality materials, and seats that provide all-day comfort. It's a good choice if you want an upscale cruiser that boasts powerful engines and a soft ride. However, if you're after athletic handling, you'll want to look elsewhere.

Used 2015 Volvo XC70 Performance and Interior

The standard 2015 Volvo XC70 Drive-E is powered by a 240-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with front-wheel drive. This powertrain was new for 2015, and it delivers swift acceleration. The XC70 is also available with two six-cylinder engines, each paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. One of these six-cylinder engines makes 240 horsepower, while the other – a turbocharged variant – produces a brute 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy estimates range from 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway with the base model down to 17 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway with the turbocharged six-cylinder powertrain.

When it comes to handling, the XC70 prioritizes a comfortable ride over an engaging drive. It easily absorbs most bumps and shocks in the road, but you'll experience some body lean around corners. Steering is light and doesn't provide much road feedback.

The 2015 XC70 seats five on standard leatherette upholstery. There are standard power-adjustable front seats, and some models may come with heated and/or leather seats. All of the XC70's seats provide ample comfort and support for long drives. However, taller passengers in the back might be a little short on legroom. The XC70 has two complete sets of LATCH child-seat connectors for its rear seats, as well as a middle-seat tether anchor.

Standard features in the XC70 include dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth, satellite radio, a USB port, and the Sensus touch-screen infotainment system. Available amenities include a moonroof, a power liftgate, navigation, a Harman Kardon audio system, a rearview camera, parking sensors, proximity keyless entry, and a heated steering wheel. The XC70's cabin is upscale and filled with quality materials and finishings. Most of the dashboard buttons and controls are user-friendly, but the navigation system is slightly outdated compared to rivals' more modern interfaces.

Should I Consider Another Used XC70?

The 2015 XC70 is part of the car's second and final generation, which spans the 2008 through 2016 model years. Though you might be able to save money by choosing an older XC70 model, there are some differences between model years that you'll have to consider. 2015 Volvo XC70 and Other Vehicles to Consider

Which Is Better: 2015 Volvo XC70 or 2015 Subaru Outback?

The 2015 Subaru Outback sits in the top part of our wagon rankings and excels in nearly all areas. It was fully redesigned for 2015, and it boasts good safety and predicted reliability scores. Though the base engine can struggle under heavy loads or on hills, it has good power otherwise. An available six-cylinder engine delivers more muscle. The Outback has confident handling along with standard all-wheel drive. Standard and available features are comparable between the two cars, though the Volvo might have a slight edge with its luxurious interior. The Outback has ample passenger and cargo space, which contributed to it being named our 2015 Best Wagon for Families. We also named the Outback our 2015 Best Wagon for the Money due to its combination of features, quality, and value.

Which Is Better: 2015 Volvo XC70 or 2015 Volvo XC60?

The 2015 Volvo XC60 is a luxury compact SUV that shares many characteristics with its wagon sibling. Both Volvos have an upscale build quality, welcoming seats, and decent amounts of passenger room. The XC60 has great safety scores and offers the same expansive suite of driver assistance features as the XC70. However, the XC60 offers more engaging performance; its steering is responsive, and it handles curves with enthusiasm and agility. With similar purchase and ownership costs, you're better off going with the larger Volvo. Because of its safety, features, and space, we named the XC60 our 2015 Best Luxury Compact SUV for Families.
