Buying Advice

Last Updated: May 24, 2019

Rising Demand: Redesigned for 2018, the Volvo XC60 experienced strong growth in sales last year, and dealerships have carried that trend over into 2019; sales are up 4.2% relative to the same period in 2018. The XC60 is selling in the upper half of the luxury compact SUV class, but segment leaders like the Mercedes-Benz GLC and the Audi Q5 are outselling it more than 2 to 1.

Average Prices: A base XC60 starts at $39,800, which is about average for base-level trims in the segment (when excluding expensive electric models). A top-trim gas-only XC60 ($52,950) is priced $6,000 below the segment average for top-of-the-line models.

Time to Buy: With healthy demand, the XC60 may not be a great choice for cost-focused shoppers looking to score a price below sticker. If you need a lower price now, consider the Lexus NX. It starts about $3,000 below the XC60 and has an outstanding reliability rating, meaning you will likely have to spend less on repairs and maintenance in the future.
