2014 Volvo XC60 Overview

Is the 2014 Volvo XC60 a Good Used SUV?

The 2014 Volvo XC60 has lots of storage space and high-tech safety options. This luxury compact SUV also has a composed ride, but its base engine doesn’t have the power of competitors’. While the XC60 has strong safety and reliability ratings, you'll find similar scores with most rivals.

The XC60’s base engine is a 240-horsepower 3.2-liter six-cylinder. The acceleration is underwhelming, especially on the highway. An available 3.0-liter six-cylinder generates up to 300 or 325 horsepower in the T6 and T6 R-Design models, respectively. The standard six-speed automatic transmission is generally smooth, but it can struggle to find the right gear when climbing hills. According to the EPA, the XC60 gets up to 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, which is average for a luxury compact SUV. The Volvo XC60 has a poised and comfortable ride, though it is somewhat firm. Its tight turning radius makes it easy to maneuver in confined spaces.

2014 Volvo XC60 and Other SUVs to Consider

Which Is Better: 2014 Volvo XC60 or 2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class?

The Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class is the only luxury compact SUV that earns a higher reliability score than the XC60: a perfect five out of five from J.D. Power and Associates. The GLK-Class has an underpowered base engine like the XC60, but it earns some of the highest fuel economy estimates in the class. The GLK-Class is also more fun to drive, thanks to its nimble handling, sharp steering, and strong brakes. However, if space is your top priority, note that the XC60 has more seating and cargo room.

Which Is Better: 2014 Volvo XC60 or 2014 BMW X3?

If you're looking for an SUV with engaging driving dynamics, the BMW X3 tops the XC60. The X3 is one of the most athletic SUVs in the class. Its turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivers quick acceleration, it earns better fuel economy estimates than the XC60, and it comes standard with all-wheel drive. The XC60, however, offers a few more cubic feet of trunk space.

Which Is Better: 2014 Volvo XC60 or 2014 Infiniti QX50?

The Infiniti QX50 is the better SUV if you want strong performance. It has a powerful V6 engine that produces swift acceleration. It also has sharp, sedanlike handling and good steering wheel feedback. However, the QX50's ride quality is harsher than the XC60's, so it may not be as comfortable for daily driving. The XC60 offers more interior room and cargo space than the QX50.
