2009 Volvo V50 Overview

The base V50 comes standard with a five-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive. A turbocharged five-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive come on the T5 trim. Most test drivers reviewed the turbocharged five-cylinder engine, which they said was lively. The upgraded sport suspension makes the vehicle handle better, but reviewers said it responds harshly to bumps, which makes the ride more uncomfortable. The base engine gets 20/31 mpg city/highway. The city mpg is typical for the class, and the V50’s highway mpg is fairly high.

Not many reviewers commented on the interior quality when the 2009 Volvo V50 was new, but they did say all the seats are comfortable and supportive. The passenger space is narrow compared with other vehicles in its class, which may not be ideal for those who plan to use all five seats. The V50, with all seats in use, has 27.4 cubic feet of cargo space, which is less than what a lot of its competitors have. The V50 has quite a few standard features, like an auxiliary input jack, a power driver’s seat with lumbar support, a power moonroof, a six-disc CD sound system, Bluetooth connectivity and satellite radio. Optional features when it was new include rain-sensing windshield wipers, heated front seats, a 12-speaker sound system, a navigation system and leather upholstery.
