2013 Volvo S80 Overview

Test drivers reported that the 2013 Volvo S80’s standard six-cylinder engine provides reasonable acceleration, but most preferred the gutsier turbocharged six-cylinder in the T6 model. The S80 comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, and T6 models have all-wheel drive. According to the EPA, the 2013 Volvo S80 gets 19/28 mpg city/highway, which is good compared with six-cylinder rivals’ estimates. However, four-cylinder rivals like the 2013 BMW 528i have similar horsepower ratings and use a lot less fuel. Reviewers wrote that the Volvo S80’s driving dynamics aren’t very exciting, adding that it has slow steering and a soft brake pedal. However, they noted that it has a composed and comfortable ride.

Automotive journalists wrote that the 2013 Volvo S80’s interior has a conservative design and nice materials, but isn’t as opulent as rivals’ cabins. They also thought the rear seats have an acceptable, but unimpressive, amount of space. The S80’s trunk space is also slightly below average for the class. However, critics liked the S80’s exceptionally comfortable front seats and user-friendly climate controls and infotainment system. Standard features in the 2013 Volvo S80 include leather upholstery, City Safety (a low-speed pre-collision braking system), an eight-speaker audio system, satellite radio, Bluetooth, a USB port and Volvo’s Sensus infotainment system with a 7-inch display. Available features include heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats, a sunroof, navigation, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, driver alertness monitoring and a system that scans road signs and gives the driver alerts based on speed limits and other traffic information.

Other Cars to Consider

Reviewers loved the 2013 Audi A6’s opulent cabin materials, and said it has both sporty handling and a comfortable ride. The base A6 has a four-cylinder engine and gets significantly better fuel economy than the base S80.

The 2013 Infiniti M’s powerful standard V6 and nimble handling appealed to many critics. They also appreciated the M’s striking cabin design and user-friendly infotainment system.
