2012 Volvo C30 Overview

Reviewers said the 2012 Volvo C30’s turbocharged five-cylinder engine provides lively acceleration around town and on the highway. The C30 is available with either a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic. The 2012 Volvo C30 gets up to 21/30 mpg city/highway, which is about average for an upscale small car. Test drivers said the base C30 has a fairly smooth ride on bumpy roads, though they wrote that the ride in R-Design models can be a bit choppier. The C30 also pleased critics with its poised handling, though some mentioned that competitors like the Volkswagen GTI and Mini Cooper S are more fun to drive.

Automotive journalists wrote that the 2012 Volvo C30 has a fashionable interior design and premium materials. Supportive bolstering and a wide variety of seat and steering wheel adjustments made it easy for reviewers to find a comfortable driving position. The four-seat C30 has two bucket seats in the back, and some test drivers said these seats are extremely supportive and comfortable. However, others noted that tight head- and legroom limit their usefulness. The C30 has less cargo space than cars like the Audi A3, and critics agreed that there’s limited storage space for a hatchback. The 2012 C30 comes standard with a USB port, Bluetooth and an eight-speaker audio system. Available features include a sunroof, heated front seats and navigation. While the C30 earned praise for its clearly labeled controls, some critics reported that similar-looking buttons on the center stack require too much driver attention. Additionally, a few auto writers noted that the navigation system can be difficult to program.

Other Cars to Consider

Critics said the 2012 Volkswagen GTI has controlled handling, a peppy turbocharged engine and an attractive interior design. The GTI also offers ample cargo space, and critics liked its spacious rear seat.

The 2012 Audi A3 has a large cargo area for the class, and it’s one of the few upscale small cars that’s available with all-wheel drive. Additionally, test drivers wrote that the A3 has a tasteful interior that’s built with top-quality materials.
