Buying Advice

Last Updated: June 21, 2019

Constant Demand: Tiguan sales have remained steady this year compared to the same period in 2018, and it’s ranked in the lower third of the class in terms of overall sales in 2019. The Tiguan is being outsold by the class sales leader, the Toyota RAV4, by over 3 to 1.

Average Base Prices: The Tiguan starts at $24,295, which is about average for base trims in the compact SUV segment. A top trim, on the other hand, costs about $3,500 above the class average for fully-loaded models. The new Tiguan borrows liberally from the Audi parts bin however, making for a luxurious cabin that’s worth its high price.

Time to Buy: Given low demand, you’ll likely be able to negotiate a lower price than what’s on the Tiguan’s sticker. Nonetheless, it’s a good idea to shop around, and an excellent and less expensive alternative is the Mazda CX-5. It’s just as sporty and luxurious as the Tiguan, but also packed with advanced safety features and state-of-the-art connectivity technology. It was also a finalist for the 2019 Best Compact SUV for the Money award. However, it offers only two rows of seating. This month's Mazda deals could help you find even more savings. If you’re set on buying a Tiguan, this month's Volkswagen deals has all the best finance and lease deals to help you save.
