2010 Volkswagen New Beetle Overview

While the 2010 Volkswagen New Beetle mainly gets attention for its looks, when it was new, test drivers liked its direct steering and strong brakes. They also said its 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine had good acceleration for most situations. Though the New Beetle has good engine power, it isn’t very good on gas, getting just 20/29 mpg city/highway.

Reviewers also said the New Beetle’s interior is big on quality, but small on space. There isn’t much room in the rear seats, but the front ones have enough legroom for most people. The base New Beetle has decent cargo room, but the convertible has a tiny 5 cubic feet of cargo space.

The New Beetle does better when it comes to standard features. Air conditioning, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, an auxiliary jack and even heated front seats are standard. It also has more safety features than its competitors, though its crash test scores are below-average.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2010 Mini Cooper also has retro styling and comes as a convertible and hardtop. With the Cooper, you’ll get better performance and higher fuel economy ratings than the New Beetle, but the Cooper’s rear seat is particularly cramped, and it has even less cargo space than the New Beetle. The Mini Cooper is well-equipped with safety and tech features and has strong safety scores.

Although the 2010 Volkswagen Golf doesn’t have old-school styling like the New Beetle, it’s still a reviewer favorite for its engaging performance, ample passenger and cargo space and quality interior. Choosing the Golf also means that you get a list of safety and interior features that’s comparable to the New Beetle’s.
