2015 Volkswagen Jetta Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta was new.

Interior: 8.1

Reviewers agree that interior updates give the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta’s cabin a more high-quality feel than the 2014 model. While some point out that there are some hard plastic surfaces, most appreciate the look of the revised gauge cluster, as well as the addition of more chrome and piano-black trim. The Jetta also impresses with a roomy cabin and trunk, though a few auto writers are disappointed with some of its tech features.

  • "While exterior changes are too subtle for most drivers to notice, interior revisions go a long way, offering better quality and improved textures." -- AutoTrader
  • "The interior, once one of the Jetta's worst attributes, has become a convincingly nice place to spend time for 2015. It's still Teutonically austere and the door panels are hard plastic, but the dashboard looks far classier, dressed as it is with tunneled gauges and reflective piano-black trim panels." -- Car and Driver
  • "The 2015 Jetta's interior changes are fewer, with more chrome trim added around the gauges and different vents on the dash and more piano black trim. I don't know how much more really needed to be done because the Jetta's interior was nice before the 2015 model arrived. It's comfortable, usable, and well put-together." -- Motor Trend
  • "The interior has undergone a refit, as well, with new higher quality materials and switchgear that give a more upscale appearance." -- Left Lane News

The Volkswagen Jetta seats five and comes with cloth upholstery. Leatherette upholstery, front sport seats, heated front seats and a power-adjustable driver’s seat are available. Test drivers report that the 2015 Jetta offers a quiet ride and comfortable, supportive front seats that have plenty of legroom. Many also write that the Jetta has a remarkably spacious back seat that offers ample head- and legroom.

  • "… the seats of the S, SE, and SEL models we drove were firm and supportive." -- Car and Driver
  • "The ride is also very quiet with the windows up and the AC on full blast." -- Motor Trend
  • "Front and rear seats in all test cars were comfy, legroom generous for a small car." -- USA Today
  • "The 104.4-inch wheelbase offers a spacious interior with head and legroom for three in the backseat. …" -- Left Lane News

Interior Features

The 2015 VW Jetta S comes with heated mirrors, Bluetooth, cruise control and a four-speaker stereo. Available features include a rearview camera, push-button start, proximity key, a touch-screen audio system with satellite radio, a Fender premium audio system, an iPod adapter, a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control and navigation. VW’s Car-Net telematics system is also available, which provides automatic crash notifications and allows you to make emergency calls or contact roadside assistance. Newly available features for 2015 include blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning and front and rear parking sensors.

Critics agree that the 2015 Jetta offers a powerful Fender audio system, and some report that it’s easy to control a smartphone or iPod with the optional touch-screen audio system. However, others write that pairing and controlling a smartphone via Bluetooth can be difficult, and that the lack of a USB port makes it difficult to charge and control some devices. A few reviewers also note that the Jetta’s small navigation screen doesn’t provide as much information as they would like, though others appreciate its straightforward operation.

  • "The telematics system is easy to use and the Fender premium audio system blasts 400 watts." -- Motor Trend
  • "VW doesn't seem to ‘get it’ when it comes to U.S. buyers' electronic wants. As with the new Golf, Jetta has no USB port for full command of your phone or music player with the car's controls. Or even just for charging. There's an iPhone cable on some models, but not one with the Lightning connector current iPhones use. That one's $65. Pairing phones, controlling streaming music was awkward." -- USA Today
  • We also like the available touchscreen stereo interface and its redundant dial knob, which is ideal for controlling a portable music player. The associated navigation system, however, is a bit of a letdown due to the small screen and limited amount of display information." -- Edmunds (2014)
  • "The climate controls are very simple to operate and easy for driver or passenger to access. The available navigation system is pretty simple to program, thanks to the combination of a touchscreen and BMW iDrive-style rotary knob." -- Consumer Guide (2013)

The 2015 Jetta has 15.5 cubic feet of trunk space, which is more room than most compact cars offer. Reviewers note that the Jetta’s trunk is extremely roomy for a compact car, and that a wide opening makes it easy to load.

  • "The trunk is as roomy as cars a size larger." -- USA Today
  • "… the 15.5-cubic-foot trunk is one of the roomiest you'll find in this class." -- Edmunds (2014)
  • "A huge-for-the-class trunk and wide aperture make loading easy." -- Consumer Guide (2013)
