  • High cost of ownership

New for 2015

  • Midgeneration refresh
  • Newly available driver assistance systems

2015 Volkswagen Jetta Overview

Is the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta a Good Used Car?

The 2015 Jetta is the perfect example of a middle-of-the-pack used car. It gets solidly average safety and reliability ratings, and zippy engine choices contribute to its decent performance. High points of the Jetta's interior include a spacious back seat and a quality design, but it lacks the features and functions of competitors.

Used 2015 Volkswagen Jetta Performance and Interior

The 2015 Jetta is available with a standard 115-horsepower four-cylinder engine (in base and Volkswagen Jetta S models) and a 170-horsepower turbocharged engine. The performance Jetta GLI makes 210 horsepower. The Jetta TDI features a 150-horsepower turbodiesel engine, though sales of this model are limited following the Volkswagen emissions scandal. The Jetta is also available with a 170-horsepower hybrid setup.

Depending on the model, you may find a five-speed manual, a six-speed manual, or a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The base engine is adequate for getting around when paired to the manual, but the turbocharged engine provides good off-the-line power and acceleration. The Jetta also has a comfortable drive and precise steering that allows for good feedback from the road.

Fuel economy estimates range from 22 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway with the base engine and automatic transmission to 25 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway with the turbo and manual transmission. The Jetta Hybrid gets 41/48 mpg city/highway.

For 2015, Volkswagen gave the Jetta a refresh that included a more upscale interior. Though there are still some hard plastic surfaces, most cabin materials are of high quality. Another appealing aspect of the Jetta's interior is its space: the front seats are comfortable and supportive for long drives, while the second row provides a lot of room for passengers. Cloth seats are standard, but you can find models with leatherette seats, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, or sport seats. The Jetta has two complete sets of LATCH child-seat connectors on the outboard rear seats, as well as a tether anchor for the middle seat.

There aren't a lot of exciting standard features in the 2015 Jetta. You'll get Bluetooth and an auxiliary jack, but you'll have to hunt around for amenities like a rearview camera or an infotainment system. You can't even get a USB port in any 2015 Jetta. Other available features include satellite radio, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a premium Fender audio system.

Should I Consider Another Used Jetta?

The 2015 Jetta is part of a generation that began with the 2011 model year and runs through 2017. Though you could likely save money by shopping for a Jetta from an earlier model year, the 2015 model’s refresh makes it a better choice. Upgrades include new interior styling and newly available driver assistance features.

Which Used Volkswagen Jetta Is Right for Me?

The 2015 Volkswagen Jetta is available in seven models: base, S, 1.8T, 1.8T Sport, TDI, GLI, and Hybrid SEL Premium. Most models come in two different trims: SE and SEL. The best choice is a 1.8T SEL model. This Jetta gets you the most desirable comfort and convenience features, such as leatherette seats, heated front seats, a rearview camera, navigation, and automatic climate control, as well as a potent turbocharged engine.

For additional peace of mind, you may want to consider a certified pre-owned vehicle. Volkswagen provides a two-year/24,000-mile limited warranty on all of its CPO vehicles. Each CPO Volkswagen must pass a 160-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Volkswagen warranty page carefully.

2015 Volkswagen Jetta and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2015 Volkswagen Jetta or 2015 Volkswagen Passat?

The 2015 Volkswagen Passat is a midsize sedan, so it will likely cost you more money to buy and own. The Passat barely offers any advantages over the Jetta, though. You'll get one of the largest rear seats in the midsize class, but the Jetta has an adequately spacious second row of its own. The Passat's trunk is only slightly bigger as well. You can find a Passat with more upscale amenities – like real leather seats, wood trim accents, and a powerful available V6 engine – but for most considerations, you're better off with a Jetta.

Which Is Better: 2015 Volkswagen Jetta or 2015 Toyota Corolla?

The 2015 Toyota Corolla's predicted reliability rating is higher than nearly all other cars on the road. Aside from that, the Corolla's lone available engine can't match the Jetta's brisk power, and the Toyota's handling isn't as engaging as the Volkswagen's. If you're looking for a no-frills, dependable daily driver, the Corolla is one of the best choices.

Which Is Better: 2015 Volkswagen Jetta or 2015 Honda Civic?

The 2015 Honda Civic is one of the top all-around offerings in its class. It gets near-perfect reliability ratings and has a roomy, upscale cabin. A rearview camera is standard, and all Civics but the base model feature a touch-screen infotainment system. The Civic even slightly surpasses the Jetta in performance, with a peppy yet fuel-efficient engine and composed handling.
