2013 Volkswagen GTI Overview

Test drivers thought the 2013 Volkswagen GTI’s turbocharged four-cylinder engine has plenty of power and delivers brisk acceleration. A six-speed manual transmission is standard and a six-speed automatic is available. Most reviewers preferred the manual, as they noted that the automatic can feel clunky at low speeds. With the automatic transmission, the 2013 VW GTI earns an EPA-estimated 24/33 mpg city/highway, which is good for the class. The GTI’s communicative steering and sporty handling make it very engaging to drive, and it also has a cushioned ride over rough roads, according to automotive writers.

The 2013 Volkswagen GTI has a very upscale cabin, with exemplary fit and finish, test drivers reported. According to the reviewers, the GTI’s cabin is quiet and has supportive front seats and ample headroom. Reviewers also said the GTI’s rear seats are spacious. Standard features include an eight-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, satellite radio, an auxiliary input jack and iPod cable. A touch-screen infotainment system, an upgraded Dynaudio stereo system and navigation are available. Some critics said the climate controls are easy to use, while others complained that the climate markings are hard to read and said the touch-screen audio system is slow to respond to inputs. Both the two- and four-door GTI models have 15.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, and the rear seatbacks fold down to increase luggage capacity.
