2010 Volkswagen GTI Review

By U.S. News Best Cars Staff December 31, 2015

The 2010 Volkswagen GTI offers refined performance, a well-made, spacious cabin and good gas mileage.

Car reviewers said one of the main reasons to choose the 2010 Volkswagen GTI is because it offers a near-perfect balance of performance and interior comfort. With its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the GTI offers great gas mileage, as well as refined driving dynamics.

Available with two or four doors, you don’t have to compromise on interior space inside the GTI. When it was new, reviewers said that the front seats are comfortable, and that there’s plenty of space for passengers in the back seat. The GTI’s high-quality interior comes equipped with heated seats, Bluetooth and a touch-screen radio with a six-disc CD changer and iPod adapter. Leather seats, a power sunroof, an upgraded stereo and navigation were optional when it was new. The GTI also performed well in crash tests and comes with a competitive list of safety features.

Other Cars to Consider

If you want a car with even better performance, the 2010 BMW 1-Series offers more-powerful engines and athletic handling that the GTI can’t match. Inside, the 1-Series has a high-quality interior, but as a coupe and convertible, it has less back-seat and cargo space than the GTI. The 1-Series is well-equipped with standard interior features.

The 2010 Mazda3 offers spirited performance that impressed reviewers when it was new. Inside, the Mazda3 has a quality interior and comfortable front seats, but it’s not as spacious as the GTI. If you need a lot of room for cargo, choose the Mazda3 hatchback rather than the sedan. Like the GTI, the Mazda3 has good safety scores.
