2009 Volkswagen Eos Overview

When it was new, critics said the 2009 Eos offered an upscale, comfortable interior, a fairly peppy engine and a controlled, comfortable ride. However, they also said it wasn’t the best choice available, with many competitors offering a more rewarding driving experience in a similar hardtop convertible package. The Eos is great for cruising the boulevard, but those looking to set speed records will probably want to look elsewhere.

The Eos is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 200 horsepower. Critics said that the Eos felt peppy, but never called it a performance vehicle. The front-wheel drive 2009 Eos is available with either a manual or dual-clutch automatic transmission. Models equipped with the dual-clutch transmission net 22/29 mpg city/highway, while manual models achieve 21/31 mpg. The Eos offers 10.5 cubic feet of trunk space with the top up, which is less than what is offered by competitors like the Volvo C70. With the top stowed, trunk capacity drops to 6.6 cubic feet.

Inside, critics said that the Eos has a welcoming and high-quality interior. They also remarked that its front seats are comfortable and supportive, though several complained that the back seats lacked sufficient passenger space. However, this complaint is common among coupes and convertibles. The Eos’ convertible top has a built-in power sunroof for occasions when occupants want to let in sunlight without putting the top down, which is a fairly unique feature among convertibles. The base Komfort trim includes standard features like leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control and an eight-speaker stereo with an auxiliary input jack and satellite radio. Higher Lux trims add leather seats and a 10-speaker Dynaudio stereo. Parking sensors and a navigation system with a 30-gigabyte hard drive were optional when it was new.

Other Cars to Consider

When it was new, critics said that the 2009 Volvo C70 had an upscale, contemporary interior and a soft, refined ride. However, many critics also noted that its suspension is too soft and its engine too underpowered to make the C70 engaging and fun. However, if you’re not looking for stand-out performance, the C70 is a worthy used convertible to consider alongside the Eos.

If you want a convertible that’s a bit more exciting, consider the 2009 Infiniti G convertible. Critics said the G37 is one of the most fun cars in the class, thanks to its sport-tuned suspension and powerful V6 engine. Critics also liked its interior, saying it feels upscale and has comfortable, supportive seats.
