2012 Volkswagen CC Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2012 Volkswagen CC was new.

Interior: 8.2

If you like to stand out from the pack, the 2012 Volkswagen CC offers two-tone seats and an upscale interior. Most reviewers compare it to a premium luxury car and laud it for its high-quality craftsmanship. They love the comfortable, expensive-looking leatherette seats. The trunk is on the small side, and also gets demerits for its small opening, which makes storage of larger items difficult.

  • "Gorgeous styling, premium-vibe interior, and lots of storage space makes it look like you paid a lot more than you did." -- Consumer Guide
  • "From the base Sport model to the top-of-the-line Executive trim, the 2012 Volkswagen CC shows off the luxury amenities and workmanship normally associated with premium luxury brands." -- Edmunds

Even though the 2012 VW CC has leatherette seats, test drivers are impressed. Some reviewers go so far to say the leatherette seats are better than the real leather found in rival cars. The CC’s standard heated and power adjustable front seats are common in the upscale midsize car class, but the two-tone upholstery makes it stand out.

Because the CC only seats four people, it may not be the best car for families. If you often have three passengers in your rear seat, you’ll want to look elsewhere. Reviewers agree that while back seat legroom is adequate, headroom is tight for taller passengers.

  • "The vinyl-leatherette surfaces are not only convincing but also look and feel better than some of the genuine leather found in other cars." -- Edmunds
  • "CC's back seat provides decent legroom for the average-size rider and has space for two in supportive seats. Taller passengers may need more headroom, a concession to CC's rakish roof line." -- Consumer Guide

Interior Features

Most reviewers love the premium materials and top-notch build quality inside the 2012 Volkswagen CC. However, one test driver is disappointed with the panoramic glass roof, saying he wishes it opened fully like the moonroofs on rival upscale midsize cars.

The 2012 CC comes standard with Bluetooth and an eight-speaker stereo featuring a six-disc, in-dash CD changer, auxiliary input, iPod connectivity and satellite radio. Navigation is standard on the Lux trim. Both navigation and a rearview camera are part of the Lux trim’s optional technology package and are standard on the VR6 4MOTION Executive trim.

  • "Padded surfaces abound. Top-quality materials create an attractive, comfortable, well-made cabin." -- Consumer Guide
  • "This 4-seater offers plenty of room, and while it has a massive panoramic glass roof, don’t expect it to open like a conventional sunroof; it only lifts to provide ventilation. And when it’s hot out, there is considerable solar gain in the cabin if the sunshade is left open." -- Road and Track
  • "Other interior materials are well-textured, with the majority being soft to the touch." -- Edmunds

The 2012 Volkswagen CC has one of the smallest trunks in its class at 13 cubic feet. In comparison, the Hyundai Genesis has 15.9 cubic feet of space and the Saab 9-5 has even more space at 18.2 cubic feet. A small opening and hinges that fold into the trunk make storage difficult.

  • "The trunk's load height is low enough for easy loading, but the opening is small and its hinges intrude into the cargo space. For more cargo room, the 60/40 rear seat folds almost flat with ease." -- Consumer Guide
  • “The split-folding rear seats feature a center pass-through to add to the 13 cubic feet of trunk space, which is a bit small for a midsize sedan. As a result, a golf bag will need to lie diagonally within the trunk, limiting the ability to accommodate more cargo." -- Edmunds
