2009 Volkswagen CC Overview

When it was new, critics liked the CC’s refined driving manners and upscale, high-quality interior. Most said that the CC is not a sport sedan, but its handling is controlled and balanced, and its engines offer ample power. One grievance that some reviewers had was that back-seat headroom and rearward visibility are reduced by the CC’s sloping roofline, which is a key component of the car’s graceful exterior design. The CC has good safety ratings for the class.

The CC is available with two engines. The first is a turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 200 horsepower, and the second is a V6 that produces 280 horsepower. Critics said that while the V6 is unquestionably stronger and makes the car faster, the four-cylinder provides plenty of power for day-to-day driving. Power is routed to the CC’s front wheels, though all-wheel drive is available on V6 models. A manual or automatic transmission is available on four-cylinder models, while the V6 comes standard with an automatic. A four-cylinder CC with a manual gearbox gets 21/31 mpg city/highway, which is good for the class, although all other configurations average slightly less. Maximum trunk space is 13 cubic feet, which is a bit low for the class.

Inside, the CC’s cabin drew praise for its classy, high-quality interior and comfortable seats. Remember that the CC can only seat two in the rear, and critics said headroom is somewhat limited. The CC comes standard with leatherette upholstery, heated, power front seats and an eight speaker stereo with an auxiliary input jack. Upper trims add features like navigation, leather seats, satellite radio, dual-zone climate control and an upgraded stereo.

Other Cars to Consider

If you like the CC but want something a bit more practical, consider the 2009 Acura TL. Critics said the base TL is a refined, comfortable cruiser, though when equipped with all-wheel drive, it becomes a nimble, athletic sport sedan.

Many critics said the 2009 Infiniti G37 is one of the sportiest choices in the class, with a powerful engine and a sport-tuned suspension. If practicality isn’t a major concern, you can eschew the sedan and opt for either the coupe or hardtop convertible version.
