Atlas vs. Pilot: Which Family-Friendly Midsize SUV Is Right for You?

The Volkswagen Atlas and Honda Pilot are both great three-row midsize SUVs with strong crash test ratings, good fuel economy, nice cabins, and lots of room for passengers and cargo. Both also deliver a coddling ride – though one is an overall better performer while the other is more accommodating and comfortable.

The Atlas came to market as an all-new model for 2018. Since then, it has been updated with new standard features and safety technologies. For 2020, Volkswagen refreshed the three-row Atlas’ exterior styling.

The Pilot has been around for many years. However, its current generation dates back to 2016. Over the last few years, Honda has added available Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as several standard driver assistance features. The 2021 Pilot also gets a nine-speed automatic transmission and dual-zone automatic climate control as standard.
