2015 Toyota Yaris Overview

Is the 2015 Toyota Yaris a Good Used Car?

The Toyota Yaris is a good subcompact car. While it won't wow you with its performance, it will reliably get you where you need to go without any fuss. The Yaris can comfortably carry four adults and a good amount of cargo. Standard features like an infotainment system also make this Toyota a good value.

Used 2015 Toyota Yaris Performance and Interior

The 2015 Toyota Yaris is powered by a four-cylinder engine that puts out 106 horsepower and 103 pound-feet of torque. Like many subcompact cars, the Yaris isn't the most powerful at high speeds, but it's well-suited to city driving. A five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmission are available, but neither really impresses. The manual is hard to shift precisely, and the automatic is outdated compared to rivals' newer six-speed transmissions, which deliver better performance and efficiency. Still, the Yaris gets good fuel economy estimates of 30 mpg in the city and 35 to 36 mpg on the highway.

The Yaris is composed around turns and has good maneuverability thanks to its small size, but many rivals offer a more engaging experience. The Yaris SE's sport-tuned suspension provides a firm ride, but there is still some body roll.

The 2015 Yaris hatchback seats five in available two-door or four-door configurations. Cloth upholstery is standard, and there is sufficient leg- and headroom in all seating positions. The Yaris SE's front sport seats add an extra dimension of support. There are two complete sets of LATCH child-seat connectors in the Yaris, with an additional tether anchor for the rear middle seat.

Standard features in the Toyota Yaris L include Bluetooth, a USB port, HD Radio, a tilt-only steering wheel, and a 6.1-inch touch-screen infotainment system. Available amenities include cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and projector-beam headlights. The infotainment system is user-friendly, and the rest of the Yaris' interior is marked by quality materials and an appealing design.

The Yaris also received the highest rating of Good in four Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests. It earned a lower rating of Marginal in its fifth evaluation – the small overlap front test.

Should I Consider Another Used Yaris?

The 2015 Yaris is part of the car’s third generation, which began with the 2012 model year. Though you may be able to score an older Yaris for less money, the 2015 version is a better buy than its predecessors. This model saw a midgeneration refresh, which updated the interior and exterior styling, retuned the suspension, and added a standard touch-screen infotainment system.

Which Used Toyota Yaris Is Right for Me?

The 2015 Toyota Yaris is available in three trim levels: L, LE, and SE. While the base model comes with cool features like Bluetooth, HD Radio, and an infotainment system, it lacks common convenience features that come with the LE, like cruise control and keyless entry. It's worth looking for a used LE model – especially considering the narrow price range between it and the base model. Drivers looking for a sporty edge will want a Yaris SE for its alloy wheels, sport suspension, and aggressive exterior design cues.

Despite the Yaris' excellent reliability, you may want to consider a certified pre-owned model. Toyota provides a one-year/12,000-mile limited warranty on all of its certified pre-owned vehicles, and it extends the original new-car powertrain warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles. Each CPO Toyota must pass a 160-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Toyota warranty page carefully.

2015 Toyota Yaris and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2015 Toyota Yaris or 2015 Honda Fit?

The 2015 Honda Fit ranks among the best subcompact cars because of its spacious, versatile, upscale cabin. There is ample room for people and cargo, and you can find features unavailable in the Yaris, like leather upholstery and heated seats. The Fit also earns above-average safety and reliability scores. You'll get much better overall performance from the Honda thanks to its peppy four-cylinder engine. An available continuously variable automatic transmission is responsive and delivers good acceleration. If you're looking for a small hatchback, the Fit is the better choice in nearly every way.

Which Is Better: 2015 Toyota Yaris or 2015 Toyota Corolla?

The 2015 Toyota Corolla, part of the larger compact car class, is a better overall option than the subcompact Yaris. The cars share the same great predicted reliability, but the Corolla earns higher safety scores. Though the base Corolla lacks some of the Yaris' standard features – like an infotainment system – it has a refined cabin quality with plenty of soft-touch surfaces. Buying and owning a Corolla will likely cost you more, but it gets similar fuel economy estimates to the Yaris.

Which Is Better: 2015 Toyota Yaris or 2015 Ford Fiesta?

The main downside of the 2015 Ford Fiesta compared to the Yaris – and the reason for its lower ranking – is its abysmal predicted reliability score. Otherwise, all three of the Fiesta's available engines provide good power and acceleration, and it's one of the sportiest-handling cars in the class. The Fiesta has a handsome interior design and laudable materials, but rear-seat space is lacking. If performance is your goal, the Fiesta will be a great choice. However, for more space and day-to-day dependability, go with the Yaris.
