Buying Advice

Last Updated: October 8, 2020

Low Sales: The Toyota Tundra is the second slowest-selling full-size pickup truck, ahead of only the higher-ranked Nissan Titan. The next truck in the sales rankings, the GMC Sierra, is outselling the Tundra well over 2 to 1. Toyota dealerships have moved 10.7 percent fewer Tundra trucks so far in 2020 compared to the same period last year.

Above-Average Base Price: The Tundra’s starting MSRP of $33,675 is about $2,000 above the segment average for base-level trims. However, a fully-loaded Tundra starts about $6,000 below the class average. On one hand, all Tundra trims come standard with a powerful V8 engine. On the other, mid-level and upper trims of the latest trucks like the Ram 1500 often come well-equipped with refined and even luxurious interiors, whereas the Tundra’s interior can feel outdated.

Time to Buy: With demand as low as it is, you’ll have leverage to negotiate down the price of a new Tundra. However, we strongly suggest looking at some better-ranked alternatives within the truck segment. The Ford F-150 is a perennial sales-leader and for good reason (it’s currently at the top of the full-size truck rankings), and it starts at several thousand dollars below the Tundra. This month's Ford deals and Toyota deals pages have all the best ways to save.
