2015 Toyota Tundra Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2015 Toyota Tundra was new.

Interior: 7.4

Some test drivers say that the 2015 Toyota Tundra's cabin is attractive and built with high-quality materials. However, others comment that there are some hard plastic pieces, and that rival trucks have cabins that seem more solidly constructed. Most reviewers report that there is plenty of rear-seat space in both the Double Cab and CrewMax models, and the controls on the center stack are easy to operate with gloves on.

  • As with most full-size pickups, the Tundra's interior spans from that of a basic truck with a 3-passenger fabric bench seat to a luxurious family hauler with brown leather interior and wood trim." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • Its typical mismatch of odd Toyota-spec materials and textures aren't bad or particularly offensive in this rugged application -- but they're not as nicely considered or assembled as something comparable out of Detroit." -- AutoWeek
  • "Maybe it's the stylish interior, which seemed over-the-top 7 years ago but remains the most avant-garde option in this segment." -- AutoTrader
  • "The 2014 Toyota Tundra's interior materials also look and feel higher-quality than in past years, and the leather appointments in the upper trims are particularly appealing." -- Edmunds (2014)
  • The new surfaces look great, but some of the hard plastics are still a bit disappointing." -- Motor Trend (2014)

Regular Cab Tundra models seat up to three, while Double Cab and CrewMax models seat up to six. A front split bench seat and cloth upholstery are standard. Vinyl seats are available on the base trim, and front bucket seats, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats and power-adjustable front seats are available on upper trims. Auto journalists say the Toyota Tundra's front seats are supportive and spacious. Most report that Double Cab models have plenty of rear-seat legroom, and CrewMax models have an impressive amount of space in the back seats.

  • "The Regular Cab doesn't have a back seat, of course, but the 4-door Double Cab provides decent room for adults in its 60/40-split folding rear bench. The CrewMax would make any tall person feel at home with its extended legroom." -- AutoTrader
  • "On the open road, the Tundra's cabin is surprisingly quiet." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "There's plenty of adult room front and rear in both 4-door models, but it's almost limo-like in the back of the Crewmax. Step-in is a bit high, but that can be said for most pickups. Visibility is quite good in all directions, which cannot." -- Consumer Guide (2014)
  • "The seats feel more like TV room recliners than sport buckets, but during our driving evaluations, they felt supportive and comfortable. I never felt like they lacked lateral support, but they didn't make entry or exit difficult." -- Motor Trend (2014)

Interior Features

The 2015 Tundra comes standard with power windows and door locks, a rearview camera and Toyota's Entune infotainment system, which includes Bluetooth, a USB port and a 6.1-inch touch screen. Optional features include an upgraded version of Entune with a 7-inch high-resolution touch screen, a JBL audio system, navigation, a power-retractable rear window and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Reviewers note that the knobs on the Toyota Tundra's center stack are easy to operate while wearing gloves. Some critics dislike that the fan speed on upper trim levels is controlled with a button that must be repeatedly pressed, and others wish there were more USB ports.

  • "Knobs and controls are easier to reach than in past Tundras, and sturdy enough to be used with gloves on." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The gauge cluster is also easier to read, with the new 3.1-inch color TFT display being particularly clear, and the Entune touchscreen is well placed for viewing from either seat and features a standard backup camera." -- Autoblog (2014)
  • "However, upper-line models have automatic climate control that includes rotary knobs for driver and passenger temperature, but repetitive-step pushbuttons for fan and mode. We find the latter rather tedious to adjust, even though you don't often have to with auto climate control." -- Consumer Guide (2014)
  • "Although the ability to stream Internet radio and search for points of interest on Bing are nice features, we would have liked to see the automaker add another USB port or two, as even top trims have only a single port (whereas competitors offer multiple charging ports)." -- Edmunds (2014)

Regular and Double Cab Tundra models come with either a 6-foot-7-inch or an 8-foot-2-inch bed, while CrewMax models have a 5-foot-6-inch bed. According to test drivers, Double Cab and CrewMax models offer plenty of space for locking up items in the cab when the rear seats are folded, and they report that there is ample small-item storage. Some critics note that the 2015 Tundra lacks innovative cargo hauling and bed features that rivals offer, such as the Ram 1500's RamBox storage compartments or the Ford F-150's tailgate step.

  • "There are numerous storage compartments in the cabin. With front bucket seats, there's a huge center console bin; with the bench seat, the center cushion flips up to reveal a good-sized storage bin. In back, the seat cushions fold up to make a large, flat-floored cargo area; on the Double Cab, you can get a large storage bin underneath." -- Consumer Guide (2014)
  • "Another gripe about the Tundra is that nothing much is happening in the cargo bed. Compared with the Ram's clever cargo management system and bodyside storage compartments or the Ford F-150's bed extender and deployable tailgate step, it's not too advanced." -- Automobile Magazine (2014)
  • "The folding rear seats in double cabs and CrewMaxes also provide a good amount of protected storage for valuable items you'd rather not leave in the bed." -- Edmunds (2014)
