2012 Toyota Sienna Overview

Test drivers said the 2012 Toyota Sienna’s base four-cylinder engine delivers adequate power, unless you regularly carry lots of passengers and cargo or have to climb steep hills. As a result, many recommended choosing the V6-powered Sienna, which has more power and similar fuel economy. The four-cylinder 2012 Sienna gets an EPA-estimated 19/24 mpg city/highway, while the front-wheel drive V6 model achieves 18/25, both of which are on-par for a 2012 minivan. Critics said the 2012 Sienna doesn’t have the sharpest handling in the class, but they wrote that it meets their expectations for a minivan, with a comfortable ride and smooth cornering behavior. They recommended the sportier SE trim for drivers who want slightly sharper handling and don’t mind sacrificing some ride comfort.

While a few reviewers thought the 2012 Toyota Sienna has cheap interior materials, most said the interior has an attractive design. Test drivers thought the Sienna has comfortable and spacious first- and second-row seats, and they especially liked that it has an adult-sized third row. The 2012 Sienna has one of the largest cargo areas of any 2012 minivan, with a maximum of 150 cubic feet of cargo space. The Sienna comes standard with a four-speaker audio system with an auxiliary input jack. Available features include tri-zone automatic climate control, leather seats, second-row captain’s chairs, navigation, a 10-speaker JBL audio system, satellite radio, a USB port, Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, a rear-seat entertainment system, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning.

Other Minivans to Consider

Reviewers said the 2012 Honda Odyssey has sharp handling and a standard V6 engine that provides good acceleration. The 2012 Odyssey also has one of the best safety scores in the class.

Unlike the Sienna, the 2012 Chrysler Town & Country is available with second-row seats that fold flat into the floor, which test drivers said makes it easy to maximize cargo space. They also liked the Town & Country’s smooth ride and powerful standard V6 engine.
