2011 Toyota Sienna Overview

The 2011 Toyota Sienna was completely redesigned for 2011 and received new engine options, a sport-tuned trim and plenty of family-friendly features. When it was new, reviewers praised the available all-wheel drive, which the Sienna was the only minivan to offer. Reviewers also appreciated the 2011 Sienna’s available V6 engine, which they called powerful and smooth.

Though the 2011 Toyota Sienna is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick, its overall crash test scores aren’t as high as competitors’. The Sienna’s fuel economy ranks near the top of the class.

The 2011 Sienna offers seating for seven or eight. Reviewers felt that the seating was comfortable for adults, even on long rides, but criticized the eighth seat for being small. Notable standard features include tri-zone air conditioning, cruise control, a four-speaker stereo with an auxiliary input and a telescoping steering wheel. Optional features when it was new include navigation, a USB jack, Bluetooth, a back-up camera, power-sliding rear doors, a power liftgate and a dual-screen DVD entertainment system.

  • "Toyota claims the 2011 Sienna is all new, but that's marketing hyperbole. Much of the third generation Sienna's substance-major stampings like the floor pan, the basic suspension design and components like the V6 engine-actually carries over from the second generation Sienna that was introduced as a 2004 model." -- Popular Mechanics
  • "There's something for everyone with five different trim levels, two different engines, front- or all-wheel drive, and even a sport-tuned SE edition. Yep, Toyota thinks the world is ready for a sporty minivan." -- Autoblog
  • "This is the best minivan out there." -- AutoWeek
  • "The redesigned 2011 Toyota Sienna becomes a must-see minivan almost by default, as it brings leading-edge design and features to a small, relatively stagnant market segment." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Though it might not be the vehicle of every man's dreams, the 2011 Toyota Sienna is simply the best value in minivans sold today." -- Edmunds
  • "If you're looking for a stylish, practical and not completely dorky way to haul a family around, the 2011 Sienna is a good bet. It's got an entirely new style, lots of features and all the functionality you'd expect of a minivan." -- Cars.com

Other Cars to Consider

If you need a minivan with great performance, interior quality and safety, the 2011 Honda Odyssey should be on your list. Both minivans were completely redesigned for 2011, but reviewers favored the Odyssey’s roomier interior and larger eighth seat. In terms of seat comfort, reviewers preferred the Sienna, which has available reclining second-row captain’s chairs.

The 2011 Chrysler Town & Country is also worth considering. Without sacrificing much in interior space, the Town & Country offers convenient seating and cargo arrangements. The Town & Country gets higher safety ratings, but the 2011 Sienna ranks higher in interior quality and performance.
