2019 Toyota Prius c Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.1

The Prius c's interior highlights include an extensive list of standard safety technology, respectable passenger space, and large cargo area. Its overuse of hard plastics is a slight bummer, however.

  • Although the hard plastics around the dashboard and center console are more prevalent than we’d like to see, everything is put together well enough for the price. And the shapes are pleasant in a mildly futuristic way. The center-mounted display for the engine/battery system takes some getting used to if this is a driver’s first hybrid." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Inside, you're greeted by hard plastic. That may be expected for a subcompact car, but more recently redesigned entries have started to add a few more soft-touch and low-sheen surfaces." -- Autotrader (2018)
  • "Hybrids are more expensive than their conventional counterparts, but Toyota hasn't scrimped to offset the hybrid premium. It feels more substantial than typical subcompacts and cheaper non-hybrids in the same size class." -- Edmunds (2018)

Seating

There are five seats in the Prius c. Both rows of seats are comfortable and supportive, but taller passengers may long for additional rear-seat headroom. Cloth upholstery and manually adjustable front seats are standard. The Prius c has two sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the rear outboard seats and an upper tether on the rear middle seat.

  • "Outward vision is excellent. For a subcompact, rear accommodation is adequate, with space for a couple of average-sized adults." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • Plenty of front-seat space for tall guys, and the steering wheel tilts and telescopes for the proper fit. Rear-seat space is a bit tighter, though." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • Prius c has low-set seats. … [O]nly the very tall might find headroom lacking. Forward visibility is very good, but the view out back is pinched by thick roof pillars and head rests." -- Consumer Guide (2013)

Interior Features

Standard features include an infotainment system with a 6.1-inch touch screen, a USB port, voice recognition, Bluetooth, and Siri Eyes Free. The Prius c also comes standard with automatic climate control, remote keyless entry, rearview camera, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection. Available features include navigation, an Entune app suite, satellite radio, HD Radio, and push-button start. The infotainment system is easy to use and comes with physical controls for temperature and sound.

  • "Despite its diminutive size, the Prius c doesn't come up short when it comes to technology features. The little hybrid offers an optional Entune infotainment system, which incorporates navigation along with internet search capabilities, weather services, Pandora radio and more. Automatic climate control, a tilt-telescopic steering wheel with audio controls, a Multi-Information Display, Bluetooth hands-free controls and remote keyless entry are fitted as standard." -- Left Lane News
  • "Toyota's Safety Sense package comes standard on all models, and includes forward collision mitigation, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and automatic high beams. It's a pretty generous and uncommon offering at this level." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "The system's 6.1-inch touch screen is easy to operate and features large icons for functions, as well as an ample multimedia bundle." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)

Cargo

At 17.1 cubic feet, the Prius c’s cargo capacity is one of the largest in the subcompact car class. You’ll have enough space for a few pieces of carry-on luggage or a week’s worth of groceries.

  • "Behind those seats is 17.1 cubic feet of luggage space, sufficient for three or four carry-on roller cases. Toyota doesn’t give the seats-down figure, but it can probably take another 10 of those cases." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The little hybrid bellies its size with a useful 17.3 cubic feet of cargo room, which is enhanced further by a versatile hatchback configuration." -- Left Lane News
  • "There's enough space behind the rear seats for groceries (17.1 cubic feet), and a large suitcase just fits. Fold down the rear seats and this small hatchback becomes fairly voluminous." -- Edmunds (2018)
