2014 Toyota Prius c Overview

Is the 2014 Toyota Prius c a Good Used Car?

The 2014 Prius c is a great option in the subcompact car class. Though not as big as its sibling, the compact Toyota Prius, it delivers similarly great mileage and plentiful cargo space. Still, if you’re looking for a car with interior refinement, you won’t find it here.

Used 2014 Toyota Prius c Performance and Interior

A 99-horsepower four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor comes standard in the 2014 Prius c. As one would expect from such a small power plant, this Toyota is best suited for driving around the city. Its engine struggles to accelerate on the highway and up steep hills. You’ll feel every bump in the road on uneven pavement, and this subcompact car lets in significant wind noise at high speeds. On the plus side, a tight turning radius makes maneuvering in cramped quarters stress-free, and the trade-off for meager performance is top-notch reliability. This hybrid gets 53 mpg in the city and 46 mpg on the highway – one of the highest ratings in the class.

You’ll find hard plastics and bland styling throughout the Prius c’s cabin. Some models come with leatherette upholstery and heated front seats, but rivals like the Ford Fiesta look and feel more upscale.

Though the Prius c doesn’t have the nicest looking interior, there’s plenty of head- and legroom in all five comfortable, supportive seats. The dashboard is positioned high, which may hinder forward visibility for shorter drivers. In addition, a small back window negatively impacts rearward visibility. The car’s hatchback body style creates ample cargo space, and the rear seats fold forward for additional room. There are two sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the second-row seats and an upper tether anchor on the rear middle seat.

Standard features include a four-speaker audio system, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, a USB port, Bluetooth, and automatic climate control. The audio and climate controls are simple, and some models have an easy-to-use navigation system. Other available features include push-button start, a 6.1-inch touch screen, satellite radio, and a six-speaker audio system.

Should I Consider Another Used Prius c?

The 2014 Toyota Prius c is part of a generation that started in 2012 and includes the 2018 model year. There were no major changes for the 2014 model year, which means you could get a very similar older model for less money. On the other hand, you may want to consider a newer 2015 model, as it includes a rearview camera, a standard infotainment system, and updated interior and exterior styling.

Which Used Toyota Prius c Is Right for Me?

The 2014 Prius c comes in four trim levels: One, Two, Three, and Four. The Toyota Prius c Two doesn’t add any standout features over the Toyota Prius c One. The Toyota Prius c Three trim is the best value. It comes with all the base trim features, as well as push-button start, a 6.1-inch touch screen, satellite radio, and a six-speaker audio system. If you want heated, leatherette front seats, you’ll have to step up to the Four trim.

You may also want to consider a certified pre-owned Prius c. Toyota provides a one-year/12,000-mile limited warranty on all of its certified pre-owned vehicles, and it extends the original new-car powertrain warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles. Each CPO Toyota must pass a 160-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Toyota warranty page carefully.

2014 Toyota Prius c and Other Cars to Consider

Which Is Better: 2014 Toyota Prius c or 2014 Toyota Prius?

Just like the Prius c, the 2014 Toyota Prius has excellent cargo space, great fuel economy ratings, and substantial interior head- and legroom in both rows. However, the Prius packs more power than the Prius c, which means you won’t have as much of an issue accelerating on the highway. The larger sibling also has more passenger and cargo space, as well as higher safety scores. Despite the Prius’ grabby brakes, body lean, and higher ownership costs, it’s the better option.

Which Is Better: 2014 Toyota Prius c or 2014 Toyota Yaris?

The biggest difference between the Prius c and the 2014 Toyota Yaris is that the Yaris isn’t a hybrid vehicle. They are both easy to maneuver, have meager engines, and offer superb reliability ratings. However, the Prius c has better fuel economy ratings and more cargo and passenger room. The Yaris has higher safety scores and lower ownership costs, but the Prius c is the slightly better subcompact car

Which Is Better: 2014 Toyota Prius c or 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid?

The 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid is a wagon with powerful acceleration and high-quality materials (unlike the Prius c). The Ford has extra interior space and about 7 cubic feet more cargo room. On the downside, the C-Max Hybrid has one of the lowest reliability scores in the class (2.5 out of five), as well as higher ownership costs than the Prius c. The Toyota also gets better fuel economy estimates and has lower annual fuel costs. For these reasons, the Toyota is the better choice.
