2019 Toyota Land Cruiser Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.1

This Toyota features a well-designed cabin with quality materials throughout, but many competitors feature more upscale interiors. The Land Cruiser will please most occupants with its spacious, comfortable first- and second-row seats, though its third row is cramped. It also impedes overall cargo space due to its design; it folds to the side rather than flat into the floor.

  • "Interior materials consist of quality leather, soft-touch surfaces and aesthetically pleasing graining throughout. No squeaks, rattles or odd panel gaps. This is an exceedingly well-built automobile." -- Edmunds
  • However, the Land Cruiser's not the best cargo-hauler, thanks to 3rd-row seats that fold up against the sides of the cargo area, reducing how much you can carry inside. At least the interior is awash in luxury touches, like soft leather and Toyota's Entune audio system." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • The Land Cruiser's front seats are plush and expansive, and they're mounted high to promote outward visibility. Dashboard materials are mostly upscale, though they don't have the premium feel of the more expensive Range Rover (or the Land Cruiser's mechanical twin, the Lexus LX 570)." -- Autotrader (2017)

Seating

Up to eight people can fit into the Land Cruiser's three rows of seats. The first two rows are comfortable and roomy enough for adults, and the second row slides and reclines to provide additional space. Space in the third row is pretty tight. Leather upholstery, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel are standard.

There are two sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the second-row outboard seats and only an upper tether on the second-row middle seat.

  • Front seat comfort is excellent. The driver's seat is supportive and highly adjustable. The passenger seats are nearly as accommodating, though the second row is a bit low. The third row is too small for comfort." -- Edmunds
  • "From behind the wheel, you'll enjoy plenty of power, a comfortable ride, exquisite seats and quiet running, thanks to the Land Cruiser's luxury levels of sound-deadening." - Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • The second-row bench slides and reclines and has its own seat heaters. Although the bench is rather low relative to the front seats, there's ample room to stretch your legs." --- Autotrader (2017)

Interior Features

Standard features in the Land Cruiser include four-zone automatic climate control, a 14-speaker JBL premium audio system, a 9-inch touch-screen infotainment system, navigation, HD Radio, satellite radio, Siri Eyes Free, the Entune app suite, Bluetooth, a USB port, and wireless phone charging. The standard infotainment system is easy to use, but its graphics aren't as nice as some its competitors' setups.

This Toyota also comes jam packed with more driver assistance technology than most of the competition. Every models features adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, a multi-view parking camera, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking.

  • The touchscreen interface is basically the same as the upgrade unit found in other Toyotas, but with a larger display. The colors do not wash out in direct light, but the graphics are not as crisp as in newer systems." -- Edmunds
  • "Seriously, we weren't kidding about everything being standard on the Land Cruiser. Your options are limited to the color of paint on the outside and the tone of leather inside." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)
  • Dashboard materials are mostly upscale, although they don't quite have the premium feel that you get with the more expensive Range Rover." -- Autotrader (2015)

Cargo

There's 16.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third-row seats. That increases to 43 cubic feet of space behind the second row, or 81.7 cubic feet of room when both rows are folded. These numbers are respectable for the class, but reviewers note that the design of the third-row seats hinders cargo space. They fold toward the sides of the cabin after folding flat. A power liftgate is standard.

  • The nonremovable, side-folding third row is a big hindrance to capacity, but this is still a decent-size cargo area." -- Edmunds
  • The 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser offers seating for eight passengers, with acceptable cargo space behind the third row." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "The seats themselves also don't fold away into the floor -- they flip sideways, meaning they take up considerable space when not in use." -- Autotrader (2017)
