2011 Toyota Corolla Review

With strong fuel economy ratings and a comfortable interior, the 2011 Toyota Corolla makes a good commuter car. However, the Corolla struggles to compete against reliable cars that offer competitive packages that include affordability, top performance and quality cabins.

Pros & Cons

  • Comfortable rear seats
  • Good fuel economy
  • Short list of standard features
  • Not as sporty as other small cars
  • Steering performance could be better

2011 Toyota Corolla Overview

The 2011 Toyota Corolla isn’t sporty, but car reviewers said its standard 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine is adequate for daily driving. They were critical of the Corolla’s steering and felt competitors were much more satisfying to drive. Averaging up to 28/35 mpg city/highway, the Corolla’s fuel economy ratings are good for the class.

Inside, the Corolla has good interior space, though its features list is pretty average and some reviewers were unimpressed with the interior quality. The Corolla has comfortable rear seats and enough front-seat room for most people. Its trunk doesn’t have as much cargo space as some competitors, but it’s still a pretty good size compared with other 2011 small cars. The Corolla’s cabin is equipped with basic items, such as air conditioning and a four-speaker stereo with an auxiliary input jack. Choosing the LE trim gives you keyless entry, cruise control and power windows and door locks. The S trim adds steering wheel-mounted audio controls. Bluetooth, a USB port and satellite radio were optional features on the LE and S models, but features like navigation aren’t available on the Corolla.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2011 Honda Civic won the U.S. News 2011 Best Compact Car for the Money and 2011 Best Compact Car for Families awards when it was new. The Civic’s quality interior, good engine power and high fuel economy ratings make it a great used small car. But if you need more back-seat or cargo space, you may prefer the Corolla.

The 2011 Kia Forte is available as a sedan, hatchback and coupe. All three models have good cargo space, but the Forte also stands out with high safety scores and impressive standard features, like Bluetooth and a USB port.
