2009 Toyota Camry Review

With a spacious interior and satisfying performance, it’s no surprise that we named the 2009 Toyota Camry our 2009 Best Affordable Midsize Car for the Money.

Pros & Cons

  • Roomy interior
  • Refined, quiet ride
  • Bland exterior styling

2009 Toyota Camry Overview

The 2009 Toyota Camry is not the most exciting car to drive, but when it was new, test drivers said it had refined, polished performance and a soft, smooth ride. They also liked its roomy cabin, which they said was comfortable, modern and upscale.

Though test drivers didn’t really find much to dislike about the Toyota Camry, they generally thought it was dull compared with some of its rivals.

The 2009 Toyota Camry has either a four-cylinder or V6 engine. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, and a five- and six-speed automatic are available. The four-cylinder Camry gets 21/31 mpg city/highway, which is fairly good for the class.

Standard interior features include a six-speaker stereo with auxiliary input, cruise control and power windows and locks. A sport-tuned suspension, Bluetooth, dual-zone climate control and leather seats were available on higher trims when the Camry was new. Seven airbags and anti-lock brakes are standard on the 2009 Camry, while electronic stability and traction control are available.

Other Cars to Consider

When the 2009 Hyundai Sonata was new, reviewers liked its interior, saying that it was roomy, comfortable and filled with high-quality materials. They also were impressed with the Sonata’s powerful engines, smooth ride and responsive brakes.

The highly-ranked 2009 Honda Accord has best-in-class safety ratings. Both cars get good fuel economy and offer plenty of room for families. However, if you don’t need four-door practicality, the 2009 Accord is available in both sedan and coupe body styles.
