2007 Toyota Camry Solara Review

Note: This review was created when the 2007 Toyota Camry Solara was new.

The Camry Solara delivers a smooth, comfortable, predictable ride, paired with spacious front/rear seating and a massive trunk for the class. However, the vehicle is no sports car, and its power and handling can't match the sports performance of others in its class.

Pros & Cons

  • Near-luxury ride in an affordable car
  • Attractive and expensive-looking exterior design
  • Many standard convenience and safety features
  • Not as sporty as expected
  • Convertible version does not yet offer retractable hard-top

2007 Toyota Camry Solara Overview

Reviewers are generally impressed with the Toyota Camry Solara's performance, styling and dependability. Edmunds adds, "If you treasure overall quality, value and comfort, there are few coupes or convertibles that put it all together as well as the Camry Solara." Automotive.com boasts that it's "the perfect way to hold on to all the brand's virtues while providing a little escapism (and looking good, too)."

The driving experience of the Solara is seen by most test drivers as smooth, plush, and perhaps even luxurious. Kelly Blue Book calls it a "superb road car" and notes that "its smooth ride is neither mushy nor devoid of road feel." However, not one reviewer considered it a performance coupe in power or handling. The Solara is considered by most to be beautifully styled, with an "arc-shape theme" as noted by Kelly Blue Book. The interior is widely praised for being spacious and well-executed, while the trunk is observed to be one of the largest in its class.

The 2007 Toyota Camry Solara is available in three trim levels and two body-styles, including a convertible, -- each priced accordingly. Given the abundant amount of "luxurious" features that come standard with the Solara, Automobile Magazine describes its price as "merciful." Edmunds agrees, saying that it's "reasonably priced and offers great value considering all that it delivers." Combined with what Kelley Blue Book describes as a "strong resale value," it's no surprise that the Camry name is among the best. Despite all this, IntelliChoice gives the 2007 Toyota Camry Solara a rating of "average" for its predicted five-year total cost of ownership, compared to other vehicles in its class.
