2009 Toyota Avalon Overview

When it was new, the 2009 Toyota Avalon was praised for its interior comfort, its smooth, powerful engine and its comfortable ride. These are just a few reasons why the Avalon won our Best Large Car for the Money award in 2009. Reviewers found the exterior styling a bit bland, but noted that it overcame this shortcoming with solid performance. The Avalon has space to comfortably seat five and reviewers said the interior was plush enough for long road trips. The rear seats in the Avalon even recline, increasing passenger comfort. Aside from the addition of standard electronic stability control, the 2009 Avalon is quite similar to the 2008 model, so you might want to check out an older model to save money.

The Avalon ranks near the top of the class in terms of fuel economy and safety. While reviewers were satisfied with the Avalon’s seats and interior space, they did note that the rear seats do not fold down to expand cargo space.

The Avalon has standard features that include a power driver seat, dual-zone automatic climate control and a nine-speaker stereo with an auxiliary input and a six-disc CD changer. A fully-loaded Avalon may offer features like a sunroof, push-button start, Bluetooth and an upgraded stereo.

Other Cars to Consider

If you want a used car that was more recently redesigned, consider the 2010 Ford Taurus. Reviewers thought that the 2010 Taurus was sleek and comfortable when it was new, but they also noted that Ford made vast improvements in the car’s handling, interior layout and performance. Both cars offer similar levels of safety.

The 2010 Buick Lucerne is a great choice if you’re looking for a used large car with a spacious interior. However, there are a few tradeoffs. When it was new, reviewers agreed that the Avalon had a nicer interior and a more refined drivetrain. The Avalon also trumps the Lucerne with its high safety scores. Still, if you’re looking for a spacious alternative to the Avalon with a ride that’s just as comfortable, the 2010 Lucerne is worth your consideration.
