Ranking the Most Dependable Pickups

We expect our beasts of burden to be dependable. We also increasingly expect them to act more like cars, with comfortable rides, plush interiors, and all the latest safety features. Yet, unlike a new sports car or a luxury sedan – cars that are often leased and returned every three years for the latest and greatest – pickup trucks tend to be bought by fiercely loyal owners and kept on the road for a long time. In fact, the average age of pickups in 2017 was 13.1 years, three more than for cars.

It’s unsurprising, then, that none of the 12 trucks on our list scored less than three out of five for reliability, based on studies from J.D. Power. We’ve ranked them in this list from least to most reliable, breaking the inevitable ties by using our own U.S. News & World Report overall score. If that’s not enough to break a tie, we then give the vehicle with the lowest base price the better ranking. Value for money counts.

Keep in mind that the scores on our site are updated constantly as new expert reviews and data become available. Therefore, the scores mentioned in this slideshow may not match the scores in our reviews.
