2017 Ram Rebel: The Ram Heads Off Road

The days when a pickup truck’s main purpose was to carry construction materials to the jobsite are long gone. Today, pickup trucks do that and much more. Properly equipped, trucks can be nearly as plush as a luxury car and can go toe-to-toe with SUVs when taken off-road. As an entrant in the off-road pickup truck arena, Ram introduced the Rebel trim in 2016. It returns for 2017 with some minor equipment upgrades.

In a press release, Ram claims the 1500 Rebel is a truck that brings “…an aggressive, one-of-a-kind, off-road design to the full size truck segment, offering customers a custom truck with capability.” Notice the phrase, “…off-road design.” This suggests that while the Rebel looks like an off-roader, it may not be the ultimate Ram for this purpose. In fact, it isn’t. That honor goes to the Ram Power Wagon. However, the Rebel has the off-road looks, and if you check the appropriate boxes on the order form, it will be able to do what those looks suggest it can do.
