Tesla Model 3 vs. Chevy Bolt: What's the Better Electric Car to Buy?

The electric vehicle segment will soon get two new affordable models, with the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt arriving at showrooms later this year, and the Tesla Model 3, which was just revealed, expected to be available in 2017. Both will carry five passengers, offer about 200 miles of electric driving, and retail for less than $40,000.

Tesla and Chevrolet have both debuted the designs of these new battery electric vehicles (BEVs), but only Chevy has released details on the Bolt's battery size, electric motor, and other specs. To better understand the Model 3, we matched information Tesla has already released with what we know about Tesla's other electric sedan, the Model S. This creates a more complete picture of what we can expect for the Model 3 and allows us to see how it compares with the Bolt in price, performance, and safety.
