Tesla’s “Affordable” Car Goes Into Production

Ever since the Tesla Model 3 was introduced with the hype of an Apple iPhone launch, consumers have been clamoring for details about the electric car. Hundreds of thousands of customers put down deposits of $1,000 without even knowing specifics about the car’s range or performance.

Now that production has started, details about the Model 3 are becoming clearer. As promised, the car will be relatively quick, have an EPA-estimated range in excess of 200 miles, and have a base price of $35,000 before tax incentives. That’s not the car you’ll be able to get until later in the fall, however. The first trim of the Model 3 to be delivered will be the long-range version with a much steeper price tag.
