2009 Suzuki XL7 Overview

Despite a few redeeming qualities, the 2009 Suzuki XL7 ranks near the bottom of its class. Reviewers thought its rearward visibility was limited and its engine was underpowered and unrefined. Plus, test drivers noted that its interior felt cheap and budget-grade, especially compared with the highest-ranking 2009 midsize SUVs. Even though the Suzuki XL7 has lots of cargo space and comfortable seats, according to some auto writers, it’s easy to find other three-row crossovers that combine cabin room and plush seating with better safety, performance and interior quality. Its safety scores trailed many rivals as well.

The Suzuki XL7 comes with a 3.6-liter V6 engine and seating for seven, and standard features include automatic climate control, power mirrors, a six-speaker audio system and auxiliary audio input jack. The XL7 is available in Premium, Luxury and Limited models, and higher trims can include features like navigation, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system and leather-trimmed seats.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2009 Toyota Highlander is better than the Suzuki XL7 in almost every way. Its interior is well-made, its ride is smooth, its V6 engine is fairly powerful and it gets better fuel economy than the XL7 in every trim level. Plus, the Highlander has about the same amount of cargo space as the Suzuki. On top of that, the Highlander has great safety scores.

The 2009 Mazda CX-9 is one of the sportiest SUVs in its class, and test drivers loved its stylish, roomy cabin. Where the XL7 falls short in interior build quality, the CX-9’s well-made, upscale interior wowed most reviewers. Both SUVs offer similar safety ratings, but the Mazda’s performance and refinement ultimately make it a better choice.
