2011 Suzuki SX4 Review

The Suzuki SX4’s most appealing feature is available all-wheel drive. Shoppers who don’t need this option should research the competition.

Pros & Cons

  • Plenty of cargo space
  • Crossover model has all-wheel drive
  • Good headroom and visibility
  • Few standard interior features
  • Sluggish continuously variable transmission
  • Lower fuel economy than rivals
  • Below-average safety score for the class

2011 Suzuki SX4 Overview

The 2011 Suzuki SX4 stands out in the class with a diverse model line that includes a crossover, sedan and hatchback, though the crossover is the only SX4 model to get all-wheel drive. Every model has a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine. Some reviewers thought the SX4 was slow to accelerate, and many thought the available continuously variable transmission (CVT) was unresponsive. Without all-wheel drive, the SX4 sedan averages up to 23/33 mpg city/highway, which is low for the class. Other models, particularly the AWD crossover, get fewer miles per gallon.

The SX4 has a good amount of safety features for the class, but it doesn’t have many standard interior amenities. The base SX4 sedan comes with power windows and door locks, but it lacks air conditioning and a stereo, which are expected features in small cars. To get Bluetooth or navigation, you have to choose a higher trim. Some test drivers found that the cabin is short on leg space, but all SX4 models offer ample cargo space.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2011 Nissan Juke is most similar to the SX4 Crossover. The Juke offers available all-wheel drive that has higher fuel economy ratings than the all-wheel drive SX4. The Juke’s interior has more standard features than the SX4, but less interior space.

The 2011 Subaru Impreza is available as a hatchback and sedan, but what sets the Impreza apart is that it’s the only small car that comes with standard all-wheel drive. While Impreza sedans don’t have much cargo space, hatchback models have loads of cargo room. The Impreza also has more standard features and much better safety scores than the SX4.
