  • New generation gained updated engine and transmissions, as well as a Sportback (hatchback) model

2010 Suzuki SX4 Overview

Few 2010 small cars will appeal to as diverse an audience as the 2010 Suzuki SX4. The model line includes an all-wheel drive model, which Suzuki calls the Crossover, as well as a Sportback (hatchback) and sedan model. Each SX4 model has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that reviewers said was slow, and a continuously variable transmission reviewers said was unresponsive. The SX4 sedan averages up to 25/32 mpg city/highway, which is a little worse than most of its classmates. If you choose the all-wheel drive model, your gas mileage will be lower.

The base SX4 doesn’t have many standard features. The cabin is equipped with power door locks and windows, but it doesn’t have air conditioning or a radio. Higher trims and optional packages add these features, as well as keyless entry, steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls, navigation, a USB port, Bluetooth and satellite radio. It’s also short on safety features, and its safety scores are below-average. More than one reviewer said that the SX4 has good headroom, but thought that there wasn’t enough legroom in the front and back. Both the sedan and hatchback models have plenty of cargo space.

Although the SX4 is one of the most versatile models in the class, its lower fuel economy ratings could deter some shoppers. However, if you want a small hatchback with all-wheel drive, the SX4 is one of the few options in the class.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2010 Subaru Impreza is another small car with all-wheel drive, but unlike the SX4, the Impreza has it standard. The base Impreza also has a lot of standard safety features, an excellent safety score and more interior amenities. The Impreza gives you the choice between sedan and hatchback models.

Only one 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer model has all-wheel drive, and that’s the high-performance Ralliart. If you don’t need all-wheel drive, the Lancer still has a lot to offer. You can get either a sedan or hatchback (Sportback) model, which reviewers said have comfortable rear seats and good cargo space. The base Lancer has more standard safety features than the SX4, and a few more interior features. It also has high crash test ratings.
