2010 Suzuki Grand Vitara Overview

If you’re looking for an affordable off-roader, you should give the 2010 Suzuki Grand Vitara a look. However, if you’re seeking a comfortable SUV for driving around town, the Grand Vitara is not the best option. When it was new, test drivers applauded the 2010 Grand Vitara’s off-road performance, but they thought its on-road ride was choppy, with marked body lean and vague steering. Most agreed that both the Grand Vitara’s base four-cylinder and optional V6 engine have adequate power, but fuel economy is low for the class. The base Grand Vitara gets 19/26 mpg city/highway, and adding four-wheel drive or the larger V6 results in slightly lower estimates.

Inside, reviewers found the Grand Vitara to be spacious and comfortable. They liked the interior material quality as well as the comfortable seating in all positions. Additionally, the rear seats boast plenty of legroom and recline for added comfort. For 2010, Suzuki added a removable navigation system as standard equipment on the Grand Vitara, which impressed critics. However, they weren’t satisfied with the in-cabin cargo space and noted that the back seats only lay flat if the cushions are flipped up.

The 2010 Grand Vitara carries more standard features than many rivals in its class. Automatic headlights, cruise control, keyless entry, automatic climate control and a removable navigation system all come standard on the base model. Higher trim levels add features like a sunroof, roof rails, foglights, push-button start, heated front seats and an upgraded stereo. Standalone options included Bluetooth and a backup camera when the Grand Vitara was new.

Other Cars to Consider

If you like the Grand Vitara’s off-road capabilities, you should take a look at the 2010 Nissan Xterra, which also offers good off-road performance. With the Xterra, you’ll sacrifice on fuel economy, in part because the Xterra has a more powerful base V6 engine than the Grand Vitara.

Though it isn’t made to go off-road, the 2010 Toyota RAV4 is a good choice because of its good performance and strong safety ratings. In addition, the RAV4 offers better fuel economy than the Grand Vitara while providing more power. The RAV4 also offers an available third-row seat and has tons of cargo space.
