2011 Suzuki Equator Review

With strong engines and a simple, straightforward cabin, the 2011 Suzuki Equator is worth a look if you’re shopping for a compact pickup.

Pros & Cons

  • Comfortable ride
  • Powerful available V6
  • Low-quality interior materials

2011 Suzuki Equator Overview

The 2011 Suzuki Equator is based on the Nissan Frontier. Reviewers said it has composed handling and a comfortable ride. Few reviewers commented on the Equator’s four-cylinder engine, but those who tested the Nissan Frontier with the same engine said it is fine for around-town and highway driving, but said that the available V6 is a better choice for those who plan on regularly towing or hauling heavy loads. Two- or four-wheel drive were available, and a manual transmission was standard on four-cylinder models, while an automatic was offered with both engines. A two-wheel drive Frontier with the four-cylinder engine and automatic transmission achieves 17/22 mpg city/highway, which is average for the class. The Equator can tow up to 6,300 pounds.

Like the Frontier, reviewers weren’t all that impressed with the Equator’s interior quality. Still, some critics did appreciate that the cabin’s controls all seem straightforward and simple to use. The Equator came as either a four-seat extended cab or a five-seat crew cab truck. Reviewers said the front seats are supportive and comfortable, and liked the easy-to-clean upholstery. The extended cab has two rear jump seats, and reviewers said these seats are best left to small kids. The crew cab offers more space, and reviewers said it is a better choice for those who regularly carry back-seat passengers. When it was new, the Equator came with few standard features. A four-speaker stereo and air conditioning were bundled in an option package. Other available features to look for include an upgraded stereo, better cloth seat fabric and a removable Garmin navigation system.

The 2011 Equator has a strong safety score.
