20) 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser
Max Cargo Space: 82 cu ft | $84,315 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.3/10
Even with the rear seats up, the 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser has 16 cubic feet of space in the cargo area. That’s plenty of space for picking up your family from the airport or for the family dog – even a really big dog. If you fold both rear rows of seats, you’ll find maximum capacity is 82 cubic feet, which will fit large items like a bicycle.
20) 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser
Max Cargo Space: 82 cu ft | $84,315 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.3/10
The third row of seats in the Land Cruiser doesn’t fold down; it folds to the side. That makes for a flat load floor, which is nice, but it does constrain the width of the cargo area. If you need to bring even more stuff along, like dirtbikes, the Land Cruiser can also tow up to 8,100 pounds when properly equipped.
19) 2018 Land Rover Range Rover
Max Cargo Space: 83 cu ft | $87,350 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.3/10
The 2-row 2018 Land Rover Range Rover doesn’t have as much cargo room as many of its 3-row luxury large SUV rivals in its usual trim – just 72 cubic feet. But the available long-wheelbase model adds more than 10 cubic feet, for a total of 83 when the rear seats are folded down. That’s enough to land it on this list, though it’s in the company of midsize SUVs.
19) 2018 Land Rover Range Rover
Max Cargo Space: 83 cu ft | $87,350 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.3/10
The long-wheelbase edition of the Range Rover starts with the Supercharged trim, which means the starting price is north of $100,000. This trim also offers a 518-horsepower supercharged V8 engine and has an optional locking rear differential for taking this massive, powerful luxury ride off the pavement.
18) 2018 Ford Flex
Max Cargo Space: 83.2 cu ft | $30,285 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.0/10
You don’t have to go big to go home with an SUV full of gear or furniture. The 2018 Ford Flex has 83.2 cubic feet of cargo space with all the seats folded away, and it’s just a midsize crossover SUV. With the third row folded, there’s still 43.2 cubic feet, and even with the third row up and the SUV loaded full of kids, there’s 20 cubic feet left in the way back for their stuff.
18) 2018 Ford Flex
Max Cargo Space: 83.2 cu ft | $30,285 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.0/10
The big, square silhouette of the Ford Flex might be your cup of design tea or it might not, but it does afford a lot of usable room in the cargo area, even for oddly shaped items. The seats fold all the way for a flat loading floor, which makes it even easier to fit bulky cargo.
17) 2018 Toyota Highlander
Max Cargo Space: 83.7 cu ft | $31,030 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.7/10
Here’s another crossover in a sea of truck-based SUVs. With all of the seats up in the 2018 Toyota Highlander, there’s only 13.8 cubic feet of space behind the third row. That’s about as much as most trunks in a four-door sedan. With the third row folded, there’s 42.3 cubic feet available, which is more typical for a midsize SUV. And with both rear rows folded, there’s 83.7 cubic feet.
17) 2018 Toyota Highlander
Max Cargo Space: 83.7 cu ft | $31,030 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.7/10
The cargo space in the Highlander is made a little more practical if you add a couple of options, like the power liftgate. There’s also an available flip-up rear glass window so that you can toss in smaller items – or carefully load bags of groceries – without opening up the entire tailgate. The Highlander also has a very high place in our midsize SUV rankings, with lots of features besides cargo space to recommend it.
16) 2018 Honda Pilot
Max Cargo Space: 83.9 cu ft | $30,900 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.6/10
The spaciousness of the 2018 Honda Pilot is all in the configuration. With all the seats up, there’s only 16.5 cubic feet of space in the cargo area. Put all the seats down, and you’ll have 83.9 total cubic feet for filling with gear or boxes of ready-to-assemble furniture.
16) 2018 Honda Pilot
Max Cargo Space: 83.9 cu ft | $30,900 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.6/10
Unlike many midsize crossover SUVs with a third row, the Honda Pilot has comfortable seats in the way back. You can maybe even put adults back there. It’s quite comfortable for short trips, especially if the passengers don’t require extra legroom. The second-row seats slide forward and back to make loading people or cargo easier.
15) 2018 Dodge Durango
Max Cargo Space: 84.5 cu ft | $29,995 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.3/10
Not only does the 2018 Dodge Durango have 84.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded, but the front passenger seat folds as well. Very long or awkwardly shaped items can fit as long as you don’t bring anyone along to help load or unload them. The Durango also boasts one of the lowest starting prices on this list.
15) 2018 Dodge Durango
Max Cargo Space: 84.5 cu ft | $29,995 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.3/10
Even with the third row of seats up, there’s 17.2 cubic feet of space in the cargo area. The third row in the Durango is not very comfortable for anyone but kids, though. Keeping it folded down means you’ll have 47.7 cubic feet of cargo space on most days, with the option of adjusting for more or less space for cargo or people as needed.
14) 2018 Toyota 4Runner
Max Cargo Space: 88.8 cu ft | $34,610 | U.S. News Overall Score: 7.4/10
The 2018 Toyota 4Runner can bring along more gear than most of its midsize SUV competitors, with up to 88.8 cubic feet of cargo space with both rear rows folded. It’s not a great SUV for commuting, but it is a great SUV for going off road, so stow your camping gear and head out for a week of roughing it.
14) 2018 Toyota 4Runner
Max Cargo Space: 88.8 cu ft | $34,610 | U.S. News Overall Score: 7.4/10
The 4Runner’s second row splits 40/20/40, which offers some flexibility for cargo and passengers. An optional rear power liftgate window gives access to the cargo area without opening up the cargo door. There’s also an available sliding cargo deck that can hold up to 440 pounds, but adding this means no third row of seating, and it lowers the overall amount of cargo space.
13) 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS
Max Cargo Space: 93.8 cu ft | $69,550 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.9/10
In the previous slides, we’ve seen mainly midsize crossover SUVs. It only makes sense that when you move up a class to large SUVs, cargo space increases.
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS has 16 cubic feet of space behind the third row, but with all the seats folded, there’s 93.8 cubic feet to fill.
13) 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS
Max Cargo Space: 93.8 cu ft | $69,550 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.9/10
The 2018 GLS is a luxury SUV, in addition to being large, so it has standard features like a power liftgate and power-folding 50/50-split third-row seats. Those seats fold flat, which makes loading the cargo area easier, even if the items you’re trying to load are bulky.
12) 2018 Chevy Tahoe
Max Cargo Space: 94.7 cu ft | $47,500 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.8/10
Though there is plenty of cargo space – 94.7 cubic feet with the seats folded – in the 2018 Chevy Tahoe, it’s on the small side for large SUVs. With all the seats up, there’s only 15.3 cubic feet in the back, which is less than some midsize SUVs. Folding the third row creates 51.7 cubic feet of space.
12) 2018 Chevy Tahoe
Max Cargo Space: 94.7 cu ft | $47,500 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.8/10
The second and third rows of seats in the Chevy Tahoe fold flat, but the floor of the cargo area is high. The task of loading the Tahoe is made a bit easier by adding the optional hands-free power liftgate and power-folding third-row seats.
11) 2018 Infiniti QX80
Max Cargo Space: 95 cu ft | $64,750 | U.S. News Overall Score: 7.9/10
The 2018 Infiniti QX80 has 95 cubic feet of cargo space with the second and third rows folded, which is a respectable amount of space for a large luxury SUV. A power liftgate is standard, making the chore of loading all that space a little easier.
11) 2018 Infiniti QX80
Max Cargo Space: 95 cu ft | $64,750 | U.S. News Overall Score: 7.9/10
The rearmost seats in the QX80 are not only power-folding for when you need more cargo space. They also recline when you want to use them for people. It is still a tight fit in the third row, which is typical in many SUVs. Some testers found that the power folding function took more time than they expected.
10) 2018 Nissan Armada
Max Cargo Space: 95.4 cu ft | $46,090 | U.S. News Overall Score: 7.8/10
The 2018 Nissan Armada has about as much cargo space as any large SUV on the market, with 95.4 cubic feet of space with all the rear seats folded. With all the seats up, including the third row, there’s 16.5 feet of space in the cargo area, which is what you’ll find in many midsize SUVs. All seats fold flat, which maximizes every cubic foot of space, but the loading floor is high, so getting large, heavy items inside might be challenging.
10) 2018 Nissan Armada
Max Cargo Space: 95.4 cu ft | $46,090 | U.S. News Overall Score: 7.8/10
The cargo area inside the Armada is versatile, with a standard split-folding third row. An optional power liftgate makes using the space a little easier. Power-folding third-row seating is also available, but the button can be reached by anyone sitting back there. If your kids are button-pushers, you want to be aware that they might hit it “on accident.”
9) 2018 Volkswagen Atlas
Max Cargo Space: 96.8 cu ft | $30,750 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.7/10
The all-new 2018 Volkswagen Atlas is a midsize crossover SUV, but VW’s largest vehicle has a massive cargo area for the class. It’s notably bigger than what you’ll find in several of the large SUVs on this list, at nearly 97 cubic feet. Even with all the seats up, there’s 20.6 cubic feet of space in the way back.
9) 2018 Volkswagen Atlas
Max Cargo Space: 96.8 cu ft | $30,750 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.7/10
The second and third rows are both split, so you can configure the space to meet your people- and cargo-hauling needs, and they fold flat. An available hands-free power liftgate makes loading and unloading the Atlas a bit easier, but there’s no power folding option for the third row of seats.
8) 2018 Buick Enclave
Max Cargo Space: 97.6 cu ft | $39,995 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.5/10
The Volkswagen Atlas gets a lot of praise for offering huge cargo space in a midsize SUV body, but it’s less well known that the 2018 Buick Enclave, a fellow midsize SUV, has even more total cargo space at 97.6 cubic feet. And it has more space behind the third row, at 23.6 feet. If that’s not enough, you can stash things under the floor of the Enclave’s rear cargo area as well.
8) 2018 Buick Enclave
Max Cargo Space: 97.6 cu ft | $39,995 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.5/10
A hands-free liftgate is standard with the Enclave rather than optional, as it is with most SUVs. Rather than having to wave your foot around under the bumper in search of the sensor to open the liftgate, just look for the Buick logo projected on the ground. It’s right below the sensor so you know where to trigger the back to open.
7) 2018 Chevrolet Traverse
Max Cargo Space: 98.2 cu ft | $29,930 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.3/10
Families with lots of people and gear to haul will appreciate the space in the 2018 Chevy Traverse. There’s close to 100 cubic feet of cargo space with all the seats folded in this midsize crossover, and 23 cubic feet even with every seat up and in use. It’s also the U.S. News 2018 Best 3-Row SUV for Families, so it has the comfort and technology families need in addition to loads of space.
7) 2018 Chevrolet Traverse
Max Cargo Space: 98.2 cu ft | $29,930 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.3/10
The Chevy Traverse was completely redesigned for 2018, and interestingly it has quite a bit less cargo space than the outgoing model. The seats fold completely flat, and the sides of the interior are flat as well, which makes for easy loading of large items. You might be able to spring for the available power liftgate and hands-free liftgate features, as the Traverse has one of the lower starting prices on this list.
6) 2018 Toyota Sequoia
Max Cargo Space: 120.1 cu ft | $48,400 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.1/10
The sequoia is a mighty large tree, and the 2018 Toyota Sequoia is a mighty large SUV. Even without an extended-wheelbase option, there’s 120.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the first row. With all three rows of seats up, there’s 18.9 cubic feet of space for luggage to fit in or a large dog to ride happily.
6) 2018 Toyota Sequoia
Max Cargo Space: 120.1 cu ft | $48,400 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.1/10
A power liftgate and power folding third-row seats are available in the Sequoia to make loading all that space a little easier. And it can tow a respectable 7,400 pounds, though other large SUVs can tow more – and have more cargo space.
5) 2018 Lincoln Navigator L
Max Cargo Space: 120.2 cu ft | $80,750 | U.S. News Overall Score: 9.2/10
We have reached the part of the list where things get truly Titanic. The 2018 Lincoln Navigator has 103.3 cubic feet of space, but if you’re reading a list of SUVs with big-time cargo space, then let’s talk about the Navigator L. It has 120.2 cubic feet, with 34.3 cubic feet behind the third row alone. That’s more than twice as much as some on this list.
5) 2018 Lincoln Navigator L
Max Cargo Space: 120.2 cu ft | $80,750 | U.S. News Overall Score: 9.2/10
The Navigator has a standard hands-free power liftgate, as well as power-folding second- and third-row seats. If you want to maximize both passenger and cargo capacity, opt for the bench seat in the second row. Otherwise, there’s a center console that can make loading very large items, like sheets of plywood, awkward. The Navigator carries one of the highest overall scores on this list.
4) 2018 Cadillac Escalade ESV
Max Cargo Space: 120.9 cu ft | $77,695 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.0/10
If you’re cargo-focused, look past the perfectly respectable cargo space of the regular 2018 Cadillac Escalade (94 cubic feet) and go for the long-wheelbase Escalade ESV. It has 120.9 cubic feet of cargo space, plus there’s nearly 40 cubic feet of space when all the seats are occupied.
4) 2018 Cadillac Escalade ESV
Max Cargo Space: 120.9 cu ft | $77,695 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.0/10
Power-folding second- and third-row seats are standard in the Escalade, and a hands-free liftgate is available. The seats fold flat into the floor, which makes for a roomy cargo area, but it also makes the floor higher. That means you have to lift your cargo higher to load it.
3) 2018 Ford Expedition Max
Max Cargo Space: 121.5 cu ft | $54,395 | U.S. News Overall Score: 9.3
The 2018 Ford Expedition is this year’s Best Large SUV for Families – especially large families with large amounts of items to bring along. With all the seats filled in the long-wheelbase Expedition Max, there’s 36 cubic feet of space behind the third row. When both rows of rear seats are folded, there’s 121.5 cubic feet of space. The regular-wheelbase Expedition has about 100 cubic feet of total cargo space.
3) 2018 Ford Expedition Max
Max Cargo Space: 121.5 cu ft | $54,395 | U.S. News Overall Score: 9.3
You can make life with the Expedition Max a little easier by opting for power-folding rear seats and the hands-free liftgate. There’s also a surprising amount of room in the third row for adults to get comfy. If you need to bring along even more, the Expedition can tow up to 9,300 pounds. And the Expedition is one of the highest-rated SUVs in its class.
1) 2018 GMC Yukon XL (tie)
Max Cargo Space: 121.7 cu ft | $51,780 | U.S. News Overall Score: 7.8/10
Again, we’re heading right for the biggest version available: the 2018 GMC Yukon XL. It’s got 121.7 cubic feet of space, with nearly 40 cubic feet behind the rearmost seats. There’s a hidden storage compartment beneath the floor as well, and if that’s still not enough, it can tow up to 8,400 pounds.
1) 2018 GMC Yukon XL (tie)
Max Cargo Space: 121.7 cu ft | $51,780 | U.S. News Overall Score: 7.8/10
There’s plenty of room in the Yukon XL, but the floor is high. That means you have to lift cargo a little higher to load it in, and it can’t be too tall. Power-folding rear seats for both rows are available, as is a hands-free liftgate, which makes the loading process somewhat easier.
1) 2018 Chevrolet Suburban (tie)
Max Cargo Space: 121.7 cu ft | $50,200 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.1/10
When you think large SUV, the 2018 Chevy Suburban likely comes to mind. This was one of the first SUVs on the market, it has been around for decades, and it is notoriously large. It has 121.7 cubic feet of cargo space, the same as its corporate twin, the GMC Yukon XL. It also has nearly 40 cubic feet behind the third row.
Just as the GMC Yukon XL is the long-wheelbase version of the GMC Yukon, the Chevy Suburban is the long-wheelbase version of the Chevy Tahoe.
1) 2018 Chevrolet Suburban (tie)
Max Cargo Space: 121.7 cu ft | $50,200 | U.S. News Overall Score: 8.1/10
The floor of the Suburban is high, so lifting large objects into the rear can be challenging. The available hands-free liftgate and power-folding second- and third-row seats help a little. But if you need to bring along smaller stuff too, there are plenty of hidden cubbies, like the one under the floor and the one behind the screen in the dashboard.
The Suburban can seat up to nine if you get the front bench seat – nearly the whole soccer team – though the third row is too cramped for adults to ride far.
A Larger, Cheaper Alternative: Minivans
If you’re not married to the idea of bringing home a brawny SUV, it’s worth considering a minivan. Every minivan on the market has more overall cargo space than even the biggest full-size SUV, and minivans give you a lot more cargo room for your money.
For instance, the 2018 Honda Odyssey, the most spacious minivan on the market and our top-ranked minivan, has 158 cubic feet of cargo space and starts at $29,990. Compare that to the most spacious SUVs on the market, the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL, which have 121.7 cubic feet of cargo space and start at $50,200 and $51,780, respectively. The runner-up minivan in terms of size, the 2018 Toyota Sienna, has 150 cubic feet and costs $30,850.

Here Are the Biggest SUVs on the Market
There are lots of reasons that SUVs are popular. They have a higher seat height for a more commanding view of the road ahead, they are usually capable of taking on a little light (or heavy) off-roading, and they have versatile cargo space for passengers and cargo. But how much cargo room can one vehicle have?
It turns out, there are SUVs with enough room for just about anything, from luggage and dog kennels to furniture and family-sized tents. We’ve looked at the cargo capacities of all the SUVs on the market today and found the 20 with the most room for stuff.
We paid particular attention to the amount of cargo space behind the third row of seats and the total amount when the rear seats are folded down. We’ve ranked the SUVs based on the latter figure.
Each of these SUVs have attributes besides cavernous cargo areas, so you’ll want to check out our reviews for more information on infotainment, handling, and safety technology.
