15 SUVs That Can Haul It All, From Point A to Point B

One of the reasons U.S. consumers have traded in their sedans for sport-utility vehicles in recent years is their expansive cargo capacity. Even a compact crossover model can carry more groceries home from the warehouse store than in the trunk of an average midsize sedan. Either way, you’ll definitely need to size up vehicle-wise if you need to move the kids’ belongings to and from college, accommodate a family’s full set of luggage on a road trip, or swallow up a weekend’s worth of antique shopping.

To that end, we’re featuring the 15 SUVs with the most cavernous cargo spaces. We’re considering their capacities behind the third row, with the third row folded, and with both the second and third rows folded, along with other pertinent details. Granted, all of these models are on the large side, with fuel economy generally not being a strong suit. However, at least one model on our list – the Acura MDX – is available as a more-efficient hybrid model.

As with all SUVs, their taller ride heights enable a more commanding view of the road than other vehicle types. These utes offer seating for as many as eight passengers, with ample head, shoulder, and legroom. When properly equipped, most are even able to tow a large boat or trailer, should the need arise. All of these vehicles offer either all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive for added traction over wet or snowy roads.
