2018 Subaru Legacy Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 8.2

The 2018 Subaru Legacy has a well-built, functional cabin. It looks modern and uses quality materials. Both rows of seats are roomy and comfortable, and there’s a good amount of trunk space. The Legacy’s infotainment system is easy to use, and there are some handy driver assistance features.

  • "Upgraded for 2018, the Legacy sedan offers a contemporary, roomy and comfortable cabin for its five passengers." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Subaru's no-nonsense approach to car design is reflected in the Legacy's simple and straightforward interior. Materials quality has improved compared to earlier versions of the Legacy, with more cushioning at common touch points like the armrests and center console." -- Edmunds (2017)
  • "High-quality materials adorn the Legacy's cabin, while passengers both front and rear enjoy stretch-out space." -- Left Lane News (2017)

Seating

The Legacy seats five and comes standard with cloth upholstery. Ten-way power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, heated rear seats, and leather upholstery are available.

The front seats are comfortable and supportive, and drivers will appreciate the excellent visibility in all directions. The rear seats are comfortable as well and offer plenty of legroom. The cabin is also well-insulated from outside noise.

There are two full sets of LATCH connectors for installing car seats. The Legacy’s LATCH system is excellent. The tether anchors are easy to find and identify. The lower anchors are easily accessed, and it doesn’t take much force to attach car seat straps.

  • "Seat comfort is excellent front and rear, and we were especially impressed with the soft and grippy cloth material. The cabin is fairly quiet. The engine is subdued in most situations, but it can get loud at high rpm." -- Edmunds
  • "Our back appreciated the 10-way-power adjustable driver's seat and its impressive lumbar support that is standard on all but base models, while the rear seat has lots of legroom." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Still, the driver's seat is a great place to be largely because it's so comfortable, a fact that also applies to the Legacy's back seats and passenger seat (all of which are roomy for a midsize sedan). Visibility is also excellent to all directions, much like many of the Legacy's rivals." -- Autotrader (2016)

Interior Features

The Legacy’s standard features include Bluetooth, a USB port, HD Radio, a rearview camera, and the Starlink infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touch screen, and Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and smartphone app integration.

Available features include a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, satellite radio, dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, blind spot monitoring, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, and an upgraded Starlink system with voice activation, navigation, and an 8-inch touch-screen display. Also available is Subaru's EyeSight suite of safety features, which includes lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision braking at speeds less than 30 mph.

The Starlink infotainment system has larger standard and available touch screens for the 2018 model year, and both are responsive and easy to use. The navigation system has sharp graphics and is easy to see from the driver’s seat.

  • "The Starlink touch-screen infotainment systems gain size -- 6.5 inches or 8.0 inches -- and speed thanks to a faster CPU." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The optional touchscreen navigation system has crisp graphics and is easy to use thanks to smartphone-like operation and large icons." -- Edmunds (2017)
  • "The optional seven-inch touchscreen in our Limited model looks and functions much better than those in older Subarus. The screen responds crisply to inputs and lets you pinch and zoom like an Apple iPad." -- Automobile Magazine (2015)

Cargo

The Legacy has 15 cubic feet of trunk space, which is a little above average for a midsize car. Split-folding rear seats come standard, giving you the ability to carry some larger items. There’s ample small-item storage in the cabin as well.

  • "Cargo volume is generous due to the airy trunk. On the inside, numerous pockets and compartments ensure there's someplace for all your personal belongings." -- Edmunds
  • "At exactly 15 cubic feet, the Legacy's trunk is big." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Cargo capacity is also a Legacy strong [suit], with a sizable 15 cubic feet of stowage space available in the trunk." -- Left Lane News (2017)
