2015 Subaru Impreza Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2015 Subaru Impreza was new.

Interior: 7.8

Automotive critics comment that the 2015 Subaru Impreza's cabin has a simple design, soft-touch materials and good build quality. They say that the seats are spacious in both rows and note that the audio and climate controls are straightforward. The sedan model's trunk is a bit small for the class, but the hatchback offers ample space.

  • "Some will appreciate the straightforward design of the 2015 Subaru Impreza. Others will just think it looks plain." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Materials and build quality are decent for the segment, highlighted by soft-touch material on the dash and door sills along with tight panel gaps." -- Edmunds
  • "The airy interior is an Impreza strong point. Even larger folks should feel comfortable up front. Generous fore-aft seat travel will have 6-footers sliding the seat forward a bit." -- Consumer Guide (2013)

The 2015 Impreza seats five on standard cloth seats, while upgraded cloth upholstery, leather upholstery and heated front seats are available. According to reviewers, the front seats are comfortable and spacious, and some add that the Impreza has a low hood line, which should help shorter drivers get a good view forward. Test drivers agree that the Impreza's rear seats offer ample space.

  • "The front seats are comfortable on long road trips (although there's little in the way of lateral support), and head- and legroom are above average for the class. The rear seat is one of the roomiest in the segment, making this Subaru eminently suitable for small families." -- Edmunds
  • "There's decent room for four adults inside, and cargo space is also generous, especially in hatchback models." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Shorter drivers will love the low hoodline and generous range of seat-height adjustment. Everyone will appreciate the same from the tilt/telescoping steering wheel. For its class, the Impreza has ample front headroom and legroom." -- Cars.com (2012)

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2015 Impreza include a rearview camera and a four-speaker audio system with Subaru's Starlink infotainment system with a 6.2-inch touch screen, a USB port and Bluetooth. Optional features include navigation, a six-speaker audio system, a 7-inch touch-screen infotainment display, automatic climate control and Subaru's EyeSight driver assist system with adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning.

Test drivers write that most of the Impreza's audio and climate controls are straightforward, though a few comment that the buttons for the seat heaters are hard to access. Other critics note that the sound quality of the Impreza's audio system isn’t great.

  • "Music lovers, take note, however: The Impreza's audio systems deliver disappointing sound quality, even by the modest standards of this class." -- Edmunds
  • "Either way, the Impreza's interior is easy to use, with the controls nicely labeled and handy. The exception would be the buttons for the front-seat heaters hidden below the driver's-side armrest." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "In general, Impreza's controls are clearly marked and logically placed. The audio system and climate controls are mounted fairly high on the dash and are within easy reach." -- Consumer Guide (2013)

The Impreza sedan has 12 cubic feet of trunk space, which is a bit low for the class. The hatchback model has 22.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 52.4 cubic feet with the seats folded, which is good among rival hatchbacks. Reviewers are pleased with the amount of cargo space that both the sedan and hatchback models offer, and they note that there are more than enough small-item storage spaces in the cabin.

  • "Cargo space is also generous, measuring 12 cubic feet in the sedan's trunk and 22.5 cubes in the hatchback's trunk. Folding the hatchback's rear seatbacks down opens up a healthy 52.4 cubic feet." -- Edmunds
  • "Small-item storage is better than average with bottle holders in all four doors (the fronts have additional storage space too), a large open bin in front of the shifter, a bi-level bin behind the shifter, two cupholders in the console, and a good-size drop-down glovebox." -- Consumer Guide (2013)
