2019 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 6.0

The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid has a high-quality interior with a pleasing design and premium materials. Passenger space and comfort are decent, but cargo room is below average for the class. The Crosstrek Hybrid comes with a long list of standard infotainment and safety features.

  • "The Crosstrek Hybrid has an attractive and welcoming interior, blessedly not full of a bunch of orange nonsense — a look that repelled us in the new Forester Sport. The Crosstrek Hybrid is full of quality materials, nice-looking textures and colors, and approachable blue accents. (Orange was actually considered, we're told, but focus groups preferred blue.)" -- Autoblog
  • "Inside the interior receives a well-balanced cockpit with easy to read gauges and clean design lines that curve and split in pleasing directions. The gray and navy blue leather seats contrast nicely with the two-tone door panels, and bold blue trim stitching." -- Automobile Magazine
  • With the interior finished in gray-and-blue leather, the cabin feels significantly more refined than that in other Crosstreks. … Passenger space is adequate, but luggage volume is compromised by the battery pack by a noticeable amount." -- Car and Driver

Seating

The Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid seats five people on standard leather upholstery, with a six-way power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel also included. A heated steering wheel is optional. The Crosstrek Hybrid has two complete sets of rear LATCH connections and an additional tether anchor for the middle seat.

The front seats are comfortable, but some critics wish there were more available adjustments. The back seat has sufficient space for adult travelers, and little road or wind noise enters the cabin.

  • The second row is of decent size, and has that same two-tone seating. It's a little tight for adults on long trips, but certainly good for bringing another couple to dinner, and definitely adequate for children." -- Autoblog
  • All Crosstrek Hybrids receive a unique gray- and navy-blue interior that contributes to the cabin's already spacious, premium feeling. The front seats are cushy and comfortable, but a lack of available lumbar adjustment could be a problem on longer road trips. … In practice, the Crosstrek Hybrid does a good job of quelling noise on the highway when the engine is off. When it fires up, the signature flat-four burble sounds distant. Overall, I can't say the Crosstrek Hybrid's interior approaches luxury levels of tranquility, but it's decent for a mainstream vehicle." -- CNET
  • "A long road trip in the Crosstrek Hybrid is not out of the question, thanks to extra sound insulation and strikingly quiet low-rolling-resistance tires." -- Kelley Blue Book

  • "Starting at $34,995 (plus $975 for destination), the Hybrid is based off the top-shelf Crosstrek Limited, so it comes pretty well equipped." -- CNET
  • "You'll be bored before we get done listing the standard features, but the highlights include leather upholstery, a power driver's seat, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and most every safety feature/warning system you can name, plus Subaru's Eyesight Driver Assist Technology." -- Kelley Blue Book

Cargo

The Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid has 15.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seat and 43.1 cubic feet with the second row folded. Those values are low for the class. The load floor is high off the ground, making it hard to lift in heavy cargo.

  • "The bummer about the plug-in hybrid battery is that it lifts the rear cargo floor up a good 6 inches, sacrificing about five cubic feet of cargo volume compared to the standard Crosstrek. … That's similar to the trunk of your average mid-size sedan, which is enough for each occupant to bring a carry-on, but it negates some of the added utility you'd expect from its crossover/hatchback body style." -- Autoblog
  • "A notable downfall compared with the standard Crosstrek is cargo space. … As a result of all the space the battery occupies behind the rear seats, the Crosstrek's cargo hold is smaller than many subcompact crossovers." -- CNET
  • "The new Crosstrek Hybrids does pay a price for storing the battery pack under the rear load floor while maintaining its generous ground clearance. Not only does it lose almost 25% of its rear-set-up storage capacity … but the battery bump raises the rear floor level about 3-4 inches which makes loading a 30-pound backpack into the rear cargo area tougher after a 3-day trip through Tuolumne Meadows." -- Kelley Blue Book
