Elantra vs. Sonata: Worth the Upgrade?

Due to the popularity of crossovers and SUVs, Hyundai's cars may tend to get overlooked. The automaker offers the compact Elantra, which comes as a sedan or hatchback, and the midsize Sonata. Both are excellent vehicles in many ways, so it’s not easy to decide which is best for you.

Both Hyundais feature fantastic predicted reliability ratings and industry-leading warranties. They each provide a comfortable ride and good fuel economy, but neither is going to win many races or wow you with its handling.

The Hyundai Elantra sedan was completely redesigned for the 2017 model year. The Elantra GT hatchback was redesigned for 2018. Hyundai also refreshed the car in 2019 and updated it again for 2020. It comes with a decent assortment of standard features and a long list of up-to-date options.

The Hyundai Sonata was fully redesigned for the 2020 model year. It looks new inside and out and comes with a healthy assortment of advanced driver assistance systems. New niceties are also available, such as a 10.25-inch touch screen.
