2009 Scion xD Overview

If you want a lot of standard features, few 2009 models can match the 2009 Scion xD. Standard features include a Pioneer stereo with six speakers, a USB port, an auxiliary input jack, cruise control and power windows and door locks. The xD comes in one trim, but an upgraded Pioneer stereo and navigation were options when it was new. Anti-lock brakes are standard, but electronic stability control was only available as an option.

The xD doesn’t have a lot of interior space. Regardless of where you sit, reviewers said that legroom was in short supply. For a hatchback, the xD has little cargo room behind the back seat, but it does offer a good amount of cargo space with the rear seat folded.

Reviewers generally agreed that the xD’s 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine provides adequate power, but a few critics noted that the xD can be a little sluggish if it’s climbing a steep hill. Additionally, some said that they would’ve liked more passing power on the highway. On the upside, the Scion xD gets up to 27/33 mpg, which is a bit above-average for the class. Some test drivers also approved of the xD’s strong brakes and quick steering, saying that the xD is easy to whip around in tight spaces.

The 2009 Scion xD isn’t the most spacious or fastest model in the class, but with more standard features than many of its classmates, this small hatchback has a lot going for it.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2009 Volkswagen Rabbit is a small hatchback that’s considered one of the most fun-to-drive models in the class. Despite its diminutive size, reviewers said the Rabbit has comfortable second-row seats and good cargo space. The Rabbit doesn’t have a standard USB port, but its safety score is better than the xD’s.

An excellent alternative to the xD is the 2009 Honda Fit. Not only does it have better safety ratings than the xD, the Fit also has a lot more interior space. Reviewers praised its spacious front and rear seats, and were impressed with its standard Magic Seat that flips different ways to expand its cargo-hauling abilities.
