2013 Scion xB Overview

Reviewers said the 2013 Scion xB offers brisk acceleration from a stop, though some said that its four-cylinder engine could use more passing power on the highway. A five-speed manual transmission is standard and a four-speed automatic is available. Some critics said the automatic can be hesitant to downshift when more power is needed. Others wrote that the transmissions in many rival cars have more gears. With either transmission, the 2013 xB gets an EPA-estimated 22/28 mpg city/highway, which is poor for the class. Test drivers praised the xB’s small turning radius and said it’s a cinch to maneuver in tight spaces. Most agreed that it also offers strong brakes and handling that’s fairly composed, though the xB suffers from some body lean on spirited drives when the road gets twisty.

Most auto writers said that the 2013 Scion xB’s cabin is furnished with hard plastics, which some said is expected for an affordable small car. Thanks to the xB’s tall ceiling, test drivers said that there’s plenty of head- and legroom and in all seats, which is high praise for a compact car. A few critics noted that its rear roof pillars compromise rearward visibility. With the rear seats folded, the xB offers 69.9 cubic feet of cargo space, which is one of the largest cargo holds in the class. The 2013 Scion xB comes standard with Bluetooth, an auxiliary input, a USB port, a six-speaker Pioneer audio system and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. A Bespoke premium audio system with navigation and smartphone app integration is available as an accessory. Reviewers reported that the xB’s gauges are located in the center of the dash, which puts them out of the driver’s line of sight. However, most liked the BeSpoke audio system, and thought that the majority of the xB’s controls are easy to locate and intuitive to use.

The 2013 Volkswagen Golf offers a useful amount of cargo space for the class, and reviewers appreciated its roomy back seat. The Golf also earned praise for its top-notch interior materials, as well as its crisp steering and controlled handling.

Critics agreed that the 2013 Kia Soul has a roomy cabin with plenty of cargo space. Like the xB, auto critics said the Soul is easy to park and maneuver in tight spaces thanks to a small turning radius.
