2010 Scion xB Overview

The 2010 Scion xB sits near the top of the class because it has an above-average safety score and one of the roomiest, most well-equipped cabins in the class. Standard on the xB are power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, air conditioning, steering-wheel mounted audio controls and a Pioneer stereo that has USB and auxiliary ports. The xB only comes in one trim, but navigation and an Alpine stereo were optional when it was new. The xB also has more standard safety features than many competitors, including electronic stability control, traction control and brake assist.

Although the xB is spacious and feature-packed, it doesn’t get the best gas mileage. Its brick-like design adds to wind resistance, which isn’t great for fuel economy, and its 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is larger and more powerful than many engines in the class, so it uses more fuel. It averages up to 22/28 mpg city/highway, which isn’t great for a small car. Overall, reviewers were satisfied with the xB’s performance, but noted that it’s underpowered on the highway, and that its boxy shape contributes to noticeable body lean when going around curves.

Other Cars to Consider

Check out the 2010 Honda Fit if you want higher fuel economy ratings, but still need a small car that maximizes interior space. The Fit has plenty of passenger space, a large, versatile cargo area and fuel economy ratings that are much higher than the xB’s. The Fit doesn’t have as many standard tech or safety features as the xB, but it does have strong safety scores, as well as sprightly performance.

The 2010 Kia Soul is another boxy car with a practical side. Like the xB, the Soul has a rear row that’s spacious for a small car, but it has less cargo space than the xB. If you want more standard features, go for the xB, but if gas mileage is more important to you, the Soul has the better fuel economy ratings of the two.
