2008 Scion tC Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2008 Scion tC was new.

Interior: 7.5

The tC's good interior scores are based on its roomy and well-assembled interior. Motor Trend comments, "The interior affords surprising luxury and space for a coupe. Legroom and headroom approach those of a Camry Solara, despite the tC's shorter length and height."

When describing the tC's interior design and upscale features, reviewers like Edmunds say, "you'll have a hard time believing you're in an economy car." Similarly, Kelley Blue Book states, "The tC's interior is Lexus-like in its execution. Fit and finish are flawless, right down to the seamless dash-mounted airbag."

Upon sitting down, the Boston Globe reviewer found the tC's seats "far firmer and more supportive" than most Toyota products, to which Consumer Guide adds, "Firm seats with snug side bolsters offer good support in fast turns." However, Consumer Guide also expressed concern over limited headroom up front, to which Kelley Blue Book seconds with, "Drivers taller than six feet may feel cramped behind the wheel."

Although the tC is designed to seat five passengers total, most agree that travel ease in the 2008 Scion tC's 60/40 split rear seats is limited. The seats are capable of reclining 45 degrees, with The Family Car estimating enough room for "a couple of limber adults in reasonable comfort, provided that the tall ones crouch a bit," while About.com recommends adults not sit in the rear "unless you're planning a kidnapping."

Interior Features

A solid number are impressed with the cabin's visual appeal. Edmunds states, "The interior is mostly lined with high-quality materials," while Consumer Guide similarly notes cabin materials as "impressive for the price."

Auto writers generally say the tC's standard features are as modern as its target driver. Features include power windows with automatic one-touch up and down, keyless entry, power outside mirrors and a tempered-glass panorama moonroof with power slide and tilt. Both the driver and passenger have their own vanity mirrors. For 2008, Scion updated the tC's seat fabric, as well as adding an auxiliary audio input jack as standard fare.

For the driver's comfort, the tC also includes a one-touch driver's seat with track angle memory, a cruise control option, and tachometer and trip meter for measuring distance. These buttons are all featured on an amber-lit instrument panel that the Boston Globe reviewer finds "large and intuitive," while About.com describes it as "well organized, attractive and easy to read … a testament to clever interior design."

Stereo and Entertainment

The 2008 Scion tC's audio system is a Pioneer AM/FM/CD Head Unit that is both MP3 and satellite-radio-ready to be blasted with six speakers including two tweeters, a system Edmunds describes as "crisp and powerful," while Maxim calls it "fully capable of cranking out that romantic Slipknot mix you burned for your girlfriend." The Pioneer audio system also allows for Scion Sound Processing.

Several reviewers highlight the customization options available for the tC's Pioneer stereo. PR Newswire notes the ability to download skins to the tC's LCD faceplate, as well as images, four-second video clips and eight-second movies from the Pioneer Web site. Meanwhile Kelley Blue Book states, "New for 2008 is the addition of rear audio outputs on the optional premium sound system, which allow for easy installation of an aftermarket amplifier."

Writers note the 2008 Scion tC doesn't provide much cargo room with rear seats upright, but many of them enjoy the amount of space afforded from folding down the rear. With 35.4 cubic feet of available space, Kelley Blue Book calls the tC "versatile" and ideal for sports equipment and overnight gear. Edmunds is more specific, adding that lowering the rear seats and right front seat in the tC would create a space "ideal for snowboarders and surfers."

Writers also praise the several small storage options inside the tC, which include four map pockets, bag hooks on the side panels and storage slots in the two-tiered center console.
