2007 Scion tC Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2007 Scion tC was new.

Interior: 7.5

A majority of reviewers enjoy the 2007 Scion tC's interior design and upscale features, causing Edmunds to say, "you'll have a hard time believing you're in an economy car." However, these same reviews note that the five-seater's compact nature could make riding in the rear seats a squeeze, and recommended the back for hauling cargo, not people.

A solid number of reviewers are impressed with the visual appeal of the 2007 Scion tC's interior. Before taking a seat, some reviews like Edmunds comment on the "unique upholstery," while the Washington Post went into detail, appreciating that the 2007 Scion tC's cabin is filled "with quality materials and fabrics often found in more expensive cars." Upon sitting down, the Boston Globe reviewer found the seats "far firmer and more supportive" than most Toyota products, but the Washington Post wished for "a bit more cush for the tush," and suggested the tC offer two seat options -- "harder, sportier seats for the young and the restless and softer seats for the old and the vested."

The majority of reviewers think two adults could ride comfortably in the height and angle-adjustable front seats, but travel ease in the 2007 Scion tC's 60/40 split rear seats would be limited. The seats are capable of reclining 45 degrees, with The Family Car estimating enough room for "a couple of limber adults in reasonable comfort, provided that the tall ones crouch a bit," and About.com: Autos recommending adults not sit in the rear at all "unless you're planning a kidnapping."

Interior Features

Auto writers say the 2007 Scion tC's standard features are as modern as its target driver. These features include power windows with automatic one-touch up and down, keyless entry, power outside mirrors and a tempered-glass panorama moonroof with power slide and tilt. The steering wheel also has a standard tilt feature that the Chicago Sun-Times found helped "provide a comfortable driving position." Both the driver and passenger have their own vanity mirrors.

Also included in the standard features for the driver's comfort is one-touch seat and track angle memory, a cruise control option, tachometer and trip meter for measuring distance. These buttons are featured on the 2007 Scion tC's amber-lit instrument panel, which the Boston Globe reviewer found "large and intuitive," and About.com: Autos found "well organized, attractive and easy to read...a testament to clever interior design." Some reviewers -- notably the Chicago Sun-Times and Cars.com -- found the panel was harder to read at night. Kelley Blue Book didn't mention difficulty reading the panels, but noted that "at a certain age, you might think the interior is a little too hip -- and colorful at night."

Stereo and Entertainment

The 2007 Scion tC's audio is provided by Pioneer, with an AM/FM/CD Head Unit that is both MP3 and satellite-radio-ready to be blasted with six speakers including two tweeters, a system "fully capable of cranking out that romantic Slipknot mix you burned for your girlfriend," Maxim says. The Pioneer audio system also allows for Scion Sound Processing. With this feature, according to Scion, "listeners can choose from three pre-set equalizer settings, satellite radio compatibility, a user-customizable welcome screen, MP3 and WMA capability, Automatic Sound Leveling (ASL) and Sound Retouch Technology (SRT), which provides clearer CD sound quality."

The Austin American-Statesman suspects most tC owners actually leave the rear seats folded for cargo. In fact, the 2007 Scion tC's cargo capabilities are both a surprise and a plus to several reviewers. Kelley Blue Book calls the hatch design "versatile" and ideal for sports equipment and overnight gear. Edmunds is more specific, adding that lowering the rear seats and right front seat in the tC would create a space "ideal for snowboarders and surfers." According to its web site, the 2007 Scion tC has 35.4 cubic feet of available cargo space.
