High Prices With Higher Safety Ratings

Safety plays a major role in every automotive purchase, as it very well should. With some luxury vehicles on this list eclipsing $74,000, one would expect expensive luxury vehicles to be some of the safest on the market. However, that’s far from the case: as with any other class, some cars are safer than others.

To get safety information on every vehicle, we examine ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). These ratings play a large role in the overall rating that we give vehicles. Both the NHTSA and the IIHS continually update their criteria for what constitutes a good safety rating. Therefore, a lot of the vehicles on this list are all-new or have been heavily redesigned recently.

Safety scores from these two organizations are just one aspect of safety, though. Standard and optional safety features are also important things to consider when purchasing a car. Hence, we also took these factors into consideration in determining the safest luxury vehicles for 2019.

As multiple vehicles earn the same U.S. News Safety Score, we also considered a vehicle’s overall U.S. News Score to separate ties. This slideshow specifically ranks luxury vehicles, ranging from good to excellent safety scores.

Read on to see which luxury vehicles received top marks for safety in 2019.
